1988 firebird 5.0 tbi 5 speed speedo and odometer issue
Yes I have a 1988 firebird. I purchased yesterday. Picked it up very cheap. So with the cheap price is a couple issues. I don't have a lot of experience with these kind of issues. But the temp, gas, volt, and oil pressure gauge work. The odometer and speedometer don't. I don't know if this is a common issue with these. So if anyone has any Information. It would help greatly. Thank you.

Ok thank you. I will check the connection for corrosion. My day off is tomorrow so I can finally have time to get underneath it. So if it does have a bad connection or needs replacement. It is normal for the both to stop working right. Or is it two separate issues?

There is a little motor on the back of my Speedo gauge on my '91 that went bad. Replaced it with one from P-N-P, now both speedo and odometer work.

Could just be that the odometer is just stuck as well. Those little plastic gears can wear out or get out of alignment. But why worry about the odometer? The speedometer I can understand.

This should be the speedo connector correct?
Except I will have to order a connector there is one thing unplugged under there I can't find anything to plug it into

Re: 1988 firebird 5.0 tbi 5 speed speedo and odometer issue
Ok so an update I wired up a new connector for the vehicle speed sensor. So now it's connection is perfect. Speedo still not working. I took the cluster out and checked the soldering seems to be all intact and clean. Next step of diagnosis is instrument cluster? Could it be possible to have a bad cluster with a odo and speedo not work but everything else function fine? Need any tips please
