TPI 305 Cutting out for split-seconds under accel
I've searched the forum and haven't found anyone having a similar problem. My '91 Trans Am with a TPI 305 has been cutting out for maybe 1/4 second at a time under acceleration. It doesn't happen every time, but maybe now 50% of the times I accelerate. It behaves exactly as if the car just loses all ignition for just a moment, and then goes back to running and accelerating fine. The tach needle does not do anything funny as suggested for a module failure.
It seems to be worse when cold or in damp weather. I drive it ~40 highway miles daily. The problem started about a month ago, and it just cut out once or twice over a week period. It's very slowly getting worse, to where it probably cut out 20 times this morning. Each time is less than half a second, and only under mild acceleration. Just cruising at a steady speed, it's fine.
Before I dive in to the ignition system and wiring, has anyone seen this before? Likely causes to me would be the module, coil, coil wire, or the ignition power wiring somewhere, but it'd be great if anyone had a suggestion.

That would be a surprising cause, but I am probably overdue for some plugs. Care to elaborate on how plugs would cause all cylinders to stop firing at the same time, intermittently?

I couldn't tell you that. It was kind of hard to understand the exact symptoms from what you described, but I've had severely worn plugs cause lots of weird missing issues so it was just a idea I thought worth checking out

If it's worse in cold or damp weather that indicates that your plugs, wires, cap rotor and coil may need servicing. If your coil, cap or wires are cracked, damp conditions can cause spark to jump out.
