Numbers on engine block
Trying to figure any info I can about this motor. I found this # on the back of the block on the drivers side just before the bell housing. Can anyone decipher it???
140S379
I am being told it's a late 80's to early 90's TPI Vette motor. Any help is appreciated.

That's the block casting number, where you need to look is a small pad in front of the passenger side head for a three letter code, that will tell you exactly what it is from.
I'm betting that the casting number is actually 14016379 which is 1977-79 and either a 350 or 267.

Should it be on the front of the block or under the front corner of the head?

See the image I've attached for where to look. In the photo, it's called the "ENGINE ID NUMBER/VIN CODE".
"CED" corresponds to a 1980 305 that was originally installed in a Caprice/Impala, or a Firebird. If that's what's on the stamp pad, then it's definitely not a 350 or TPI.

I'm looking for the pad in front of the head but it must be covered by the alternator bracket. It is definitely TPI injected. I found the "CED" on the passenger side of the block behind the header and under the head.

The Blue color is somewhat of a dead giveaway too -- IIRC, there were no factory Blue SBCs after 1982, and Blue is not a very popular color choice for a block repaint.

Yea, not a big fan of the color. It's like a Seafoam Green/Teal Green/Carolina Blue mixture. Personally would prefer black.
