Best Rear Gear For A Superram

I have had my Super for about 6 years now and had a 700r4 with a 2800 stall and 2.77 gear in it. Car ran well, had decent mileage, but seemed gutless in its prime powerband. I then upped the rear to a 3.27. Still thinking I can hold on to decent mileage, it didnt feel much different. Ive swapped to a t56 and now I want to make sure I can have the best of both worlds. As I am sure a 3.70 will most likely tickle my fancy, will I still be able to plug about 22-24mpg on the fwy? What do u think? Thanks in advance

Re: Best Rear Gear For A Superram

Automatic TPI cars dont need a lot of gear due to the bottom end TQ they deliver. With that said 3.42/3.45 would be the maximum gear i would ever use plus a 2800-3200 stall.
Now with a manual i would use 3.73-4.10 max

Re: Best Rear Gear For A Superram

I sent my car to LPE back when it was new. had them upgrade it.. the gear they install with mods to tranny there 383 and just about every thing they had to offer was 4.11s still did 75 on the freeways and pulled 11.70s at the track. yes this was with the 700R4 also.. stall was 3200 rpm none lock up.
28" tall tires on the rear... 50 state smog also.. but that was back in the 90s

its a bit faster now...and i still run 4.11s now with 29" tall tires

The taller tire reduces the effect of the 4.11 gear. For those of us with stock size tires, your 29"/4.11 combo is the same as having 3.63:1 gear with the 25.6" tire.

Re: Best Rear Gear For A Superram

Im running a 3.73 rear gear with a 700r4 and a 355 Superram. Its hard to hook up on the street. I was thinking about dropping down to a 3.23 to get better traction with street tires on launch....

3.42 would be a much better choice.. 3.23 would be better suited for a 383 more TQ down low requires less gear.....
