Accel Plug Wires???
Hi, I want to get some Accel Super Stock plug wires for my '89 IROC-Z (part # 4065.) Does this set come with a coil wire? Do both sides have 90 degree boots? Are they fully assembled? And has anybody had good experience with them? I like them because they are 8mm wire made for my car and they are only $23! Yeah MSD and Moroso are probably better, but I can't see spending $50 for an 8mm wire that I will have to replace in the same ammount of time. Answers, Opinions??? Thanks for the help. -89IRO

I had a set. Came with coil wire but are not all 90 degree boots, and they didn't go well with headers. I replaced them with #8848. They are 8.8MM, 90 degree, but cost about twice as much.

O.K., I went back to the Accel website and put in the info for my car again ('89 Camaro IROC-Z 5.7L 350.) Then I clicked on "Custom fit super stock wires." The only part # that came up was 4065. I didn't see 4047 or 4045 like you guys are talking about. And if I go with the more expensive 8.8mm ones, I'll just go with Moroso. -89IRO

I'm not running headers and don't plan on so will the 4065s be alright? I just wrote to the Accel tech guy, and he said the 4065s come assembled with 90 degree boots on both sides; you sure about that Keith? Alright thanks guys, wite back. -89IRO

i have moroso plug wires, and they are tough mothers.....the number 8 plug is really really close to the header primary.. the boot used to touch it and it never melted or burned. i actually took down the electrode on the end of the plug so the boot would push on further hehe works good, no problems so far

383- yeah I was looking into the Moroso Blue max Spiral ones (i think thats what they are called) (part # 72538), is this what you have? O.K., here are the questions- do they have 90 degree boots on both ends, fully assembled, and do they come with a coil wire???? Don't get me wrong, the accel ones still appeal to me cause they are about half the price. Thanks man. -89IRO

hehe you can have 90deg boots if you want cause the wires are all custom fit.....you gotta put all the terminals together and stuff....but its really not that hard to do, and they wires are great, they arent the blue ones though they're red. i think they were expensive though

No complaints here about the Accel Super Stock wires. DOn't worry about ordering them, Most Advance, Autozone, and Pep Boys stores carry them. I was really dissappointed with my MSDs when they started arcing not 8 months after I bought them. Without headers you really should get the 180* boots, unless you want your wires toasty. Get ya a set of those.

I've never had any luck with Accel wires. They usually go bad within 6 months for me. I replaced them with Pep Boy's special 7mm $15 wires and the car never ran better I swear! I just needed something to throw on there real quick so I just got those. They've lasted about 2 years so far ... no problems. I will not by Accel wires again -

i had two sets of accels on my car, and they didn't work well for me. i would burn then constantly. so i switched to MSD Super Conductors, and could not be happier. they are about ten times better quality then the Super Stocks. but then again, i think you get what you pay for.

My experience has been the same as Z28 Boy.
I ran several sets of Accell Super Stocks since they were so readily available. Boots broke down on every set.
I now order MSD wires and am much happier with how they hold up. I will not pay for Accell wires.

I have the Accel wires with the sleeves on them. They were around $100 or so. I have Edelbrock headers and have no problems with them so far. I did have the cheaper Accels before and they burned.
The sleeved wires are expensive but so far they have been worth it because I dont have one burnt.

Accel 300+ Custom sets
Get the sets you have to cut yourself. They come with 90 and straight plug boots, so you can mix them up. I have no complaints...even before I added the MSD ig and coil. Great tune up/performance wires.
worth the money too.

I actually have run 4 sets of Accel wires on my car. But with my headers I had an expensive lesson taught to me that you have to not be lazy and spend probably a few hours routing the wires to ensure they won't burn. I zip tied the crap out of them so they wouldn't move. I can't say I am all that impressed with the quality of Accel. I had super stock 8mm then the 8.8mm then two sets of 300+ 8.8mms. I found they never wanted to stay on the ends of the spark plugs. And only get the ones you make on your own. Otherwise you have wires that are 3 feet too long. I am now running Taylor Spiro Pros. They are nice. I like the sturdy plug boots. Only bad thing was I measured the resistance of my old Accel 300+ versus my new Taylors and the Accels were reasonably less.

SuperStock Spiral versus Suppression
I've got the spiral core wires in the set you make yourself. I used plenty of dielectric grease in all my connections. I think they work fine and do not cause any radio interference. I've got no arcing and I was careful to cut and route my boots where they do not touch each other nor the exhaust manifolds. Irepeat, I have NO PROBLEMS WITH ACCEL because I made sure the wires were routed properly and lubricated properly.
What people do not seem to understand is that wires of ANY brand need to be well-greased on each connection and MUST NOT TOUCH EACH OTHER. otherwise you will see arcing and halos around the plugs. Accel and other wire makers do not provide enough dielectric grease for my liking, and any good Automotive retailer will carry it. Corrosion is a big resistance factor, and any bit of moisture breeds it on any kind of metal. If corrosion is found where connections are, the current will take the path of least resistance, be it another wire, the engine block, wherever.

Less Resistance wires will not equal a Paxton Supercharger either... it will show up in your fuel mileage as an extra mile or 2 per gallon in providing a more consistent spark. If you're looking for a more seat of the pants feel, then install headders or a cat back. Wires will not be felt as a major power upgrade. So long as you have things routed the way they are supposed to be, any set of wires will work properly.

All i was saying was that youd be better off buying the taylors because you can cut them to whatever lenth you want and there only like 30 bucks. There a really good deal without paying more for plug wires. Id rather spend a little less money for a good pair of plug wires, seems how there going to be burned and all. Plug wires get burned reguardless if you have them tied down....cause you always run the risk of a wire falling out of the loom or burning through a tie wrap. Case closed!

That's where cutting them to the lengths they need to be without being burned or "falling out" as you had mentioned needs to be done. Yes the risk is there, but if you take the time to do your own custom routing properly, then you WON'T have any burned wires, regardless if the wires were $10 or $100 per set, wires done right won't get burned. And ANY Universal set needs to be cut and have the Distribuor ends attached.
