Sounds like you have a transmission problem. Try a Trans-Go full shift kit. Follow the instructions. I used the manual-auto install instructions. It will shift sometimes when you don't want it to. There are full manual install instructions. Might not be good on the street, don't know. Don't get the short kit, you will not be pleased.

The automatic side works just fine. was reading on some other posts and it just sounds like it needs to be adjusted on the cable, like it's worn out and just needs to be tightened. If that don't work, then i will stick to racing with the automatic side (14.99 with the Auto side) so we'll give it a try today and see what we find. Also told that I might have a vac leak, however didn't think that tranny had a vac on it... oh well, up on the ramps today she goes!
Keep searching eBay. Someone has been trying to sell a NIB one for $700.
LOL yeah i emailed that guy being like u gotta be kidding me, and hes all "if someone wants to pay that than so be it" i remember yearone had it listed in there catalog for like $200 or somthing, and that was only a cupple years ago. that guy is just scamming the ill informed.
its nice but not $700 nice, id just get the B&M b4 paying that!
There was an ebay auction that ended on Monday for a Dual Gate shifter that ended at $625.00. This was for a USED dual gate. That $700 Dual Gate ended up selling for $525, and it was NEW. Another Dual Gate has been put up on ebay today...I already bid what I believe to be a fair amount for the USED dual gate, and I still did not reach his reserve price.
for 700 dollars I could hire someone to shift for me...

read the last part.. "DONT WAIT JUST BUY IT NOW FOR $625"
yea...thats a retarded amount of money for a shifter. If i cant find one for a reasonable price ill just put the money i save towards a better engine and a T56.

Whats up with the shifters, Yes $ 700 is why to much to pay its not that great of a shifter, Some people are having problems with the B&M maga or are looking for somthing diff, Im putting in a hurst promatic 2 with a manaul shift plate the only problem is the gear indacator but i don't look at it anyway, The was only $150 new shipped and $20 plate that beats $700 a looks good .

I had the same shifter on my last third gen before I ditched the th350 for a 5 speed. I did essentially the same thing you're doing, I got a hurt bolt on shift boot for a manual shifter which fit perfectly around the promatic 2 handle, and made my own top plate using the factory one as a template. I used a piece of plexiglass the same thickness and the factory plate and painted it with black texture paint that matched the interior. It looked like it was made for the car and worked great, the only problem like you said, no gear indicator so I doubt it would have ever passed state inspection. IIRC I had to cut the factory shifter bracket off the trans tunnel to bolt it down.
Mechanically it should be the same and therefore mechanically fit with little to no problems.
Cosmetically is where the problems start though, the face plate on our Firebirds is way different than that of a Camaro. Without hacking up the console's face plate there's no good way to make a Hurst Dual-Gate work in this vintage Firebird.
It was stated earlier that it wouldn't work in '82-'92 Firebirds. That's a wrong statement, it would work fine in an '82 to '84 Firebird because their console is the same as a Camaro's. It's the '85 to '92 Firebirds that have different consoles, and therefore you run into issues with the face plates.
My
don't waste your money
I got one about 3 years ago from year one
it broke in less then 10mins after install
(cheap plastic junk)
only good thing was year one returned it
I have heard a few people complain about breakage, but I've been using my Dual/Gate for over 10 years with no problems. I wouldn't pay what they want for one on ebay, though. Got mine when they were available from Jegs for $250 - $300.
