I voted pro 5.0 cause i've heard so many great things about them, i have a B&M ripper shifter and its a good product but it seems its too stiff for me. Then again Hurst has been around for a while.

I assume this is for manual trans shifters. That's what I'm writing about, anyway.I just got a Pro 5.0. Very easy install. I chose it over Hurst and B&M because I searched the boards here and at the corral. I read lots of good stuff about all three shifters. I also read lots of posts in which people with Hurst shifters said that they had also driven a car with a the B&M Ripper and much preferred the B&M. While this is a matter of personal preference, I found many of these responses. I didn't find anything comparing the B&M to the Pro 5.0, but I did find many posts in which people said that if they had their choice of the three shifters (Hurst, B&M, Pro 5.0), they would go with Pro 5.0.
The only one of these shifters I have actually tried (haven't driven my car yet) is the Hurst (on my brother's friend's 93 Mustang GT). I really liked it; however since I had not tried the others, and people that had said that they liked B&M better; and since many people (that may or may not have tried all three) said Pro 5.0, I went with Pro 5.0. I know that the Pro 5.0 over B&M "evidence" is weak or nonexistent, but that was my choice.
For some reason, I doubt you can go wrong with any of them

I voted for what I have (an older style Hurst Billet). But were I going to buy one today it would be the Pro 5. My Hurst came on the Iroc I bought and I just swapped it to my RS. I'll probably get a Pro 5 for the Iroc when I have it back together and running. But to answer the question i'm very happy with the Hurst. My shift handle is about 1.25" shorter because the prior owner broke it and redrilled it shorter.

I've installed both in customer cars (rustangs) and i am much more impressed with the PRO 5.0. These guys build a bulletproof shifter that makes it virtually impossible to miss third. Just my humble opinion.

Seeing as how I test drive the cars I work on when I'm done I would have to hazard a guess that just might mean I DO have some personal experience with the parts I install. As such, my next stick car will have the PRO 5.0 shifter in it.

I have never felt a more firm shifter than my billet plus. With a 1" chop on the handle, i've never felt a shorter throw on thirdgen either. I've never felt the Pro 5.0 in a camaro, but i've felt it in my friends mustang, and it is nice, but for some reason i tend to think mine has more feel to it. JMHO

I think the pro 5.0 is the better shifter I have driven cars with both and I have to say I didn't like the pro 5.0 at first but it kind of has to break in so it isn't so stiff doesn't take vary long. After the shifter loosens up you will love it.

all you have to do to get a shorter throw on the hurst is take the upper handle off (two bolts) and drill a third hole higher on the handle. Then re-install the handle using the two top bolt instead of the bottom holes. it only takes about 5 minutes and it takes almost an inch off the throw.... then you have yourself the BEST shifter you'll ever feel...

Hurst for my vote
Actually I'm using the Competition Plus Hurst shifter and love it. I've felt a Pro 5.0 and B&M Ripper and I still like the position of the Hurst. For a different look, I purchased the chrome shaft and white ****.

I installed my Billet Plus back in the Fall of '99. Have put 35k hard daily-driven miles on it and love the feel and quality. Only fly in the ointment is it came with the cheapest, cheesiest shift **** one could imagine. So I spent $30 extra for a B&M ****. Go figure.

Are you sure about that? Maybe you should rephrase that to be...."On the nitrous, my car is faster." Because off the jug your waaaaaaaayyyyy behind. I just thought it was funny that in your earlier post you mentioned that the original postee should listen to you because your car is fast. I don't see where it's fast at all! Hell, I don't even call my car fast with all the mods I've done. I'm working on it though!!

Ok, yes I know your car will destroy mine NA. There is no question in anyone's mind to that. But, I view my car as fast. 115 mph in the 1/4 is fast by most peoples standards on TGDO. I would bet my mph is in the top 10 percent on this site. Very few cars made can obtain that standard. You used money to go 114 plus, I used nitrous. I view a good ****er as one that produces accurate shifts quickly. Noting mph indicates the quickness of the shift being made, nitrous or not. Of course gearing and powerbands come into play but I am generalizing.
Oh, and Cadence, why are you chiming in? Do you too have a way to go 114mph plus or do you just know David? I have no idea why it is of your concern that I responded in 3 weeks.

Well, your the one that said "Nitrous or not my car is faster". To me that sounds like you were saying that your car is faster on and off the gas. I'm not saying 115mph isn't fast, but for the mods you have done it ought to be much faster. You only run 13.5 @ 102 mph with all those mods to a 350? My old 305 with stock ported TPI, stock vette heads, mild cam, exhaust, etc., went 13.65 @ 101mph and I know it had at least another tenth in it. IMO, you use the nitrous to make the hp because the motor obviously isn't and it's the cheaper way out. Yep, I've got a few pennies in my setup, but it looks like you have a few in yours as well. AFR heads, T-56, intake.....all those parts don't come cheap. Sorry dude if I'm rubbing you the wrong way.....I really don't like to get in these, so this will be my last response. Plus were here to help each other, not bite at each other!

Yeah, I hear you. You really need help on your contractions, though. So, my 100,000 mile 350 has stock runners, and a peanut cam, as well as a hypertech chip. Was the cam in your 13.65 305 bigger than mine? Think my 350 has more in it?? But I bought good heads, sure, they are for my 406. I just had to pay college tuition instead of 406 parts and decided to put them on my 350. That is why I have less than 9 to 1 compression. How fast have most people run with stock runners? About 13.xx probably? Honestly besides the heads and my base intake, you have every speed part better.
My T-56 is new b/c I broke my t-5, which if my memory serves correctly, you have and will break soon too. And the t-56 will not help my 1/4 mile times, it will slow them down.

gofaster is correct, that t56 will slow you down. 2.66 1st gear compared to 2.95, plus the negligible extra weight.
all this drama all came from what shifter to buy, i like the drilling holes in the hurst too, pretty cool.

Gentlemen, I was contemplating this very subject tonite! I have no experience with any of these shifters, but I did make my own! Yes, I cut 3 inches out of my stock shifter handle. I have always wondered if the aftermarket shifters lowered **** Height any. I bought a world class t5 to replace the nwc t5 in my previous '86 T/A. The nmc had a tighter shifter base, so I cut 3 inches out of that, and welded it back together to keep the stock threads. I like it so much, that I took it out before I sold the '86. It sure improved the '89 as well. If i lay my right arm on the center console, the right hand lays flat on the top of the shift ****. Only thing to watch for is Do Not have thumb on rear of **** when shifting into 2nd or 4th forcefully! Thumb is an interferance fit with console! I don't know if anyone has tryed this or not, but it makes me smile! And as Vader should appreciate, It Was Free! Great site, glad I found it! Thanks for all the great info!!!!:hail:

I voted for the Billet Plus, because that's what I've got. I really like it so far, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get the handle shortened once I get a 4th gen console in my car. I'm a fan of Hurst stuff, so that's my .02

edit: woah....I just realized that I brought this one back from the dead hahaha. I was just searching for posts about shifters and stumbled upon it....oh well hehehe

I just installed the B&M ripper. Such an inprovement of the stock shifter and alot beefier. There was a huge improvement in 2nd to 4th shifts.
Don't have any experience with the Hurst or the Pro 5.0, but I would definitely recommend the B&M

I am running the Hurst Billet Plus chrome shifter, I did but the white **** with the 6 speed pattern, I agree the black **** was cheapo looking. I love the way it shifts and I also drilled that extra hole on mine (exact same thing I did on my 90GT). As far as going slower with the T56, its all sepculation. We all know that there is no way a person can ever shift gears faster than an automatic trans. I have a D&D Performance T56 close ratio 6 speed and even with the bottom 4 gears being close together it took me a good season to get my 1/4 mile times to where they were with the built 700R4 I used to have.
