New reproduction dash pads from Ecklers
So I ordered a new dash pad from Ecklers for my 87 IROC, and it just arrived today. I am SUPER HAPPY with how it looks. It looks just like a brand new, OEM dash pad. It is the whole thing, not just a cap. All you need is to install the corner vents, and screw it right in just like the original. I will post some pics of it tomorrow. It was $400 shipped. If anyone else had stumbled across them and wondering if they were worth a crap, they seem to be exactly what I was hoping it was. I'll know more about the fit once I get it in the car, and will post about that once it's installed.

Re: New reproduction dash pads from Ecklers
It's probably manufactured by OER. Been available for 6 years or more. I had one in 2016. It was awful and I returned it for full refund. All I can say is, don't get too excited until you try to install it....
Hopefully they've had enough feedback since then that the many issues are resolved.

The speaker grilles are nuts on. Here's a comparison between my original 19k mile dash pad (first pic), and the Eckler's dash pad (second pic)
I think maybe you're thinking of the firebird speaker grilles...they ARE different

Re: New reproduction dash pads from Ecklers
Notice the dents and flaws on the top surface in the Ecklers catalog pics? That's not an error, that's what is called "truth in advertising". And that's not even the big issue I ran into.
What I'm really watching for is to see how yours lays on the dash.

OER catalog listing at $649.99
https://www.oerparts.com/product/198.../12511119.html
Eckler listing at $325.99
https://www.ecklers.com/camaro-dash-...-848302-1.html
Not sure if this is one manufacturer and two methods of distribution or a different product altogether. Probably the former. That said, the Eckler piece has entered the arena of affordability.
Hmm.

Re: New reproduction dash pads from Ecklers
How was the fit all around, does it lay flay and fit the front window well? I might just have to jump on this since I've never seen a dash pad for less than 600 bucks before

Re: New reproduction dash pads from Ecklers
Thats a tempting price, but i noticed the ends of the grills are not vacuumed formed as well as the OE part and the screw holes in the center vents look open at the bottom. That bugs me a bit, although not sure if it still bug me in person.

The ends are hard to tell from his pictures, it would be great to see it from the drivers seat view so you could see how flat it lays and how thick the corners are

Re: New reproduction dash pads from Ecklers
I'm talking about the rounded ends of the grooves/channels or whatever they're called. You can see it in the close up shots. On the OE the sides are perfectly vertical and the bottom of the groove is flat. Not so on the repro. You can see the vacuum process didn't pull the material all the way down into the rounded corner. Small detail, but once you know it's there.... you know how that goes.

Re: New reproduction dash pads from Ecklers
I installed the new dash pad today in my 87 IROC-Z project. The mounting holes don't line up for crap. Getting the screws in requires a lot of patience, and a very colorful vocabulary. Once it's in, it really doesn't look too bad. It's a MILLION times better than what was in it before. The speaker grilles appear a little wavy. My biggest complaint is that there's a ridge along the bottom edge that looks like it had excess material cut off with a razor blade. You can see it in my close pic of the 2 center ac vents. Other than those issues....it's pretty good. I wouldn't want it in my 19k mile car by any means, but for the most part it does look pretty good. The top surface is a little wavy, but not really noticeable. Oh, and the top screws up by the windshield will literally disappear if they're in too far. It's flimsy up there and the screws will pull right through it.

Yeah that's definitely OER, i see they haven't improved the pad much since i bought one and returned it, ive heard OER pads in these have a very bad tendency to warp. I think there's another company on facebook now that rebuilds and makes new dash pads for these cars that are dead on accurate to originals, but my memory on the name isn't coming to me. If i remember ill post it.

Re: New reproduction dash pads from Ecklers
I have been waiting to get mine back from the Fibrenew vendor here for a few months. Took about 2 months of pestering to get them to come and pick it up. The technician said he would do his best to try and line the speaker grills up, but warned me they may not look original. I chose to go this way as I had yet to find a replacement dash pad that looked like a suitable replacement. It is good to see that there are attempts being made to reproduce these again as I have heard the market for these cars is heating up.

UPDATE on my OER dash pad.....
I SOLD IT.
One other thing that I forgot to mention before, is it weighs probably twice as much as a factory dash pad. I wouldn't even put it in my racecar for that reason.

I have an OER dash pad that I bought back in 2009. Been great and I am very happy with it. Some of the purists on this forum would still put their noses up at it, but even the original dash pads weren't perfect. There is a NOS dashpad on Ebay right now that has minor flaws.
That being said, ALL the other OER stuff I have bought since 2009 has been junk. I stopped buying that brand years ago. But if I could find another new OER urethane dash pad for $150 shipped to my door I would probably jump on it. I can live with minor flaws to save $500+.

$150ish for any decent new dash pad is a good deal. I immediately went on Ebay and tried to find another like yours for that price but no luck.
