Can somebody tell me more about this strange thing?

Try using firefox to access the site instead of internet explorer.

Re: PEP BOYS website
I was wondering why you'd even bother as well - last time I looked (about 3 months ago) you couldn't access anything but a store locator - I see they do have some parts and accessories added the their site now - but no where near the selection of AZ or Advance or NAPA. But it is deadly slow - if they are going to stay in the game, their going to have to get that website fully functional and on a decent server!

Re: PEP BOYS website
My friend took his Jeep cherokee in for a water pump replacement. The labor was obsene. I cannot recall the exact figures now but on the repair order. But I do remember they listed the labor of removing the upper radiator hose on its own line, and it costing $90, just to remove the hose for waterpump replacement. That labor was listed seperate from the water pump. They double flagged time on him. The labor time for the hose should have been included in the waterpump, since on that model, I "belive" its allready part of the W/P replacement. I am going to guess and say it was over $300 by the time he got back on the road with it. And it doesnt stop there, because after he picked it up, his A/C did not work anymore. I called for him because he was too upset to deal with it. They wouldnt hear anything about them possibly damaging an ac line and leaking the refidgerant, or possibly dosching the compressor clutch with coolant, causing the clutch to possibly malfunction. They said if we wanted to bring it in they could service the A/C system, but that would be the standard A/C service cost. No responsibility for their actions. Now luckily for my friend, it sounds like the clutch just got dumped with coolant because about 2 days later, it suddenly worked again properly and continued working for several years without any other errors.
Anyway though, if its not flat rating customers on the labor, then its poor customer service. That was story 1.
Story 2:
Another person I knew had a bad experience with poor labor being performed once again. This time it had to do with a check engine light coming on, getting repaired by them, and then the light coming on again the next day. They would not refund his money and would not look at the vehicle again unless he paid them once again for the repair. They claim it was unrelated but it was the same misfire code, PO305. When he went down to the store to complain in person, it was like something in the movies. Suddenly all the employees were standing around him as though they were about to pounce on him lol. Now of course they did not, nor did any of them say anything, but they were just intimidating him with this "you mess with 1 team member you take on the whole team" strategy. In the end, he was out a few hundred bucks for a repair which did not repair anything.
I do not know what Pepboys looks for when it searches for Technicians, but skill and experience is aparently, optional.

Re: PEP BOYS website
Well, as a tourist, driving a rental car, I wasn't going to test their skills at all...!!
I just wanted to buy some parts for my Firebird back home, and I remembered PEP Boys from years ago to be one of the largest carpart stores in the USA.
I was surprised about them today.
Anyway, their website is working again, and I can view it now....!!

Re: PEP BOYS website
this is interesting only because you'll find they change prices from one zip code to another. seen it on Advance & Autozone's pages when shopping for parts in my area and in my parents area.....

Re: PEP BOYS website
Maybe so, but I can use autozone or oreillys and I have no problem getting prices from them. And I do use the zip code when they ask for it. But without fail they say go to the store. I am not bad mouthing them as I have gone to the store and at times they had better prices than most. But I alway figure that the website was made to speed things up so a trip to get a price would be unneeded. Heck I have a hard time getting them on the phone for that matter.

Re: PEP BOYS website
I cant even tell you why pep boys is even in business anymore because of the horrible customers i have to deal with every day, since im an employee at advance, pep boys is across the road from us, and we get customers always complaining.
From what i know, the mechanics at pepboys get paid flat rate pay, which its like a mechanic looks on mitchells website ( a owners manuel u can say) It tells the mechanic how long the job takes to do a water pump and timing belt change on like a 98 eclipse. Say it takes 4.7 hours. And they charge $90 an hour for labor, so say if they get the job done quicker than 4.7 hours they get a bonus ( so ive heard) so its the labor that kills customers, if that job takes them 4.3 hours to do the job they get $387 and what percentage the company gets out of it. Basically the mechanics rush to get the job done, because the more cars they get done, the more money they make in a day. And the service managers see how much faster they work, they are going to be giving him all the work. Its all about the money guys, pep boys to my knowledge doesnt show any sympathy to the customers.

Yes pretty much, advance just started getting up with this century finally on even telling you which store in your area has the particular part you are looking for.

Re: PEP BOYS website
There are 2 pepboys in my town. The one is so bad I dont know how it stays in business. They have nothing in the way of parts. The other one though, wow they have everything. They just opened up a speed shop section. I bought All of my ARP bolts and gaskets there, priced matched and no shipping charge plus I didn't have to wait 4 days.
However, despite having a good aftermarket selection I would NEVER let them touch my car.
