Colorful
Yeah... Colorful is the way I wanted it. The rest of the car is rather monochromatic and I wanted the motor to jump out at you when I pop the hood. It was pretty popular at the Woodward Dream Cruise. It also gets 19 MPG, helped me take a first place trophy at the 2005 National Fbody Motorsports Event, ( in Prepared Autocross), and with only seventeen miles on the engine, turned in an E/T of 12.90 at 113 MPH.
It also can idle in Woodward Dream Cruise traffic for four hours straight, never exceed 186 degrees, then immediately lay down 396 rear wheel horsepower on the Livernois chassis Dyno.
I'm hoping for an even better performance at the tenth annual Michigan event this upcoming october 10th where I should see the engine hit 400 ft.lbs and tip it over 400 RWHP with a better tune and the FAST LSX ECM that I have here in the box. If I can find traction I might even tickle some 11-second time slips out of the engine.
Notice the Edelbrock TES6872 headers? Dont anyone ever tell you that they are junk. I've got some Hooker long tubes hanging up to go in over the winter but for now, the Edelbrocks seem to be doing a fine job with exhausting this engine. It doesnt start dropping power until after 6250 RPM.

Yes they are. You can run them so they are not that noticable I have one of the lines running from my radiator to my heater core. It runs along the frame rail
here's mine right before i finished it up...i don't have updated pics...and yes i know, one of the fuel lines aren't hooked up, its just kinda chillen there..
no stealth ram...i milled the top ribs off becuase i was bored in machine shop, and spent endless hours polishing..it turned out pretty good, but NOT WORTH MY TIME, definately wouldn't do it again...
thanks..it looks a little cluttered with all the wires and everything...but i got them pretty tucked away now. looking a lot better now...i wish i had an updated pic..
i had a question about that...you don't leave your throttle body open to the air like that normally, do you? sometimes i see pictures of stealthrams and they leave the opening to the throttle body wide open. isnt that like bad...or do they just do it for the pictures
thats before I had everything put together...if you look, i don't even have the raditor cover on in that picture, and i didn't even have the airbox in either. So to answer your question, no I dont' ride around like that, I have MAF, so I need that tube on there too...also that TB was 500 bucks so I had to show it off a little bit and yes that is bad, your suckin unfiltered air into the motor, never a good idea..
You Bastard! I thought I was the first and only to mill down the top! I'm going to have a buddy engrave something on the top of mine, then finish polishing it. Great minds think alike
here is a pic of my. don't know any power ratings yet but i'm also hurting my power output with the small headers and some other little stuff. after 9000 on the motor and accessories i was alittle hurt for money. sig has run time in the 1/8

Just out of curiosity. Why do people run just an air filter on the end of the throtle body? Is it just for the look? You would think that the stock one might be better cause your not pulling hot under hood air.
well for me i didn't have a TPI i had a 305 TBI then a 350 w/ a 454tbi then the stealth ram. i'm going to do a CAI as soon as i get some money and time. I'm in Japan right now. working on my Skyline
yea TPI383 is who gave me the idea....well actualy I tryed just polishing the top of the ribs....then painting the whole top, then trying to just wipe off the top of the ribs...well it didn't work...so i had a HSR that had a red top on it...so i desided to just mill the whole deal off..

What is that aluminum box type thing that the coolant hoses go into. Is it just for looks?
I made that partly for looks but it was mainly to hold and organize those damn heater hoses. I was tired of them draping over the valve cover...looked sloppy.

Thanks.
It was a five step process to powdercoat it.
1) Polish it like crazy
2) Mask off what you dont want powdercoated
3) Powdercoat what you do want powdercoated
4) heat cure carefully
5) re-polish out the parts covered with mask, because the yellow will indeed find its way around the mask.
It took me about sixteen to twenty hours of work to get it that way.
BTW, the torquey engine is now F.A.S.T. XFI powered and all my flat spots went away. Mash the gas and it buzzes like an angry bee. First gear is waste-the-tires, second gear is crazy-fast, and third-gear is arrest-me-fast. Fourth is stupid-fast, fifth is blow-the-hood-off fast, and sixth, well, lets just say I've never been to sixth gear except when cruising.
It turned 396 RWHP at Livernois dyno in late august and I'm sure it's now over 400. In fact, my rear axle is now skiving off steel from somewhere and it's beginning to howl... I thought I bulletproofed it, too! I guess the Richmond gear folks were right...

Looks great.
Thanks. I've done a few for some people too, but after dabbling in it, I decided to leave the professional powdercoating biz to other folks with better equipment: My ex-boss kept paying me better hourly wages to work as an electrical engineer until I finally gave up and just went back to work for him
However, now the work is tapering off again so I need to find something else. Hence the F.A.S.T. gig. Unfortunately that isnt paying any bills yet, but I did end up with a nifty new ECM in my car for R&D purposes...
Just curious: WHich powdercoating system is your principal piece? Are you still using Hotcoat or have you moved into Tiger Drylac powders and a commercial gun for doing your pc work?
...and with regards to ceramic thermal barrier coatings, are you using the Technline coatings series? I did my own pistons in Techline CBC2 but after a summer's worth of engine use, I haven't popped off a cylinder head to see if its still there or not.
PM me if you dont want to answer on this thread as this is probably bordering on thread hijack.
Just curious are these your daily drivers, i would love to do some gutting under my hood emmisions, ac, etc.. would you recommend this for someone who drives their thirdgen everyday, or does it even makea difference?
Originally posted by z28 NyC Just curious are these your daily drivers, i would love to do some gutting under my hood emmisions, ac, etc.. would you recommend this for someone who drives their thirdgen everyday, or does it even makea difference?
Do you use your AC? Do you use your heater? Do you have to pass e-check?
If you answer No to all of the above gut it.
If anything id keep the heat and swap to a non ac heater box.
Im actually puting heat back in my vert since Im in ohio.,
Cool, actually I dont have the ac anymore and there are (expensive)ways of getting around emmision standards I think ill keep the heat too but other wise ill go for it thanx, oh one more thing kinda off the topic dumb question I have a turbo hood fully vented, I live in nyc and its gonna be getting very cold soon do you guys fore see me having any problems engine wise besides the car taking forever to warm up and getting a little wet under the hood every now and then.?
Originally posted by ZZ4 86 Z28 and related to his question, what are the advantages of removing the padding from under the hood. cold winter is coming up here too. thanks.
My car lost its underhood padding in 1987. It's never made any difference, except perhaps in terms of paint life: The paint only made it 21 years before I had to have it redone.
Current set-up is an accel pro-ram. With a cutler (now holley) single plane efi, home ported sportsman 200cc heads, and comp hydraulic roller (230/236 .544"/.555") it put down 350hp/348trq through a tremec TKO and a 9". Current setup..???
