I wrecked my car today:

Hey fellow thirdgeners:

It is a dark day indeed. Leaving for work this morning I made a right turn after relizing I forgot sthg. at home. I caught some gravel and slid off the road, down a small inbankment and you know those little brick and morter decoration thingie's at the front of subdivisions? Ya, I went throught that. Dented in the front in but once towed out It poped back out. So, I'll need a new ground effects valance panel and front end for sure. They re sorta cut up and deffiently messed up the paint. But Im really woried about my frame being messed up, but I wont find out till tommarrow if she's totaled. But anyways, the main reason Im posting this is because regardless of the fact I probably totaled it, and I DID go THROUGH a BRICK WALL (2 feet thick)!! My airbag did not deploy. So, Im sitting here, hurting really bad from neck pain wondering if I can sue GM for that? Any Ideas? Anyone here have a simple experience? Im gonna wait till tommarrow to go to the doctor and all that but I just wanted to get some quick 'legal advice' from you guys. Thanx for all your help.

Jeremy

I would assume so, because if the air bag is faulty, your INFL REST light will come on wont it ?

Sorry to hear about you luck, if you can sue, tell them you want a 2003 Z06! :hail:

I always wondered if my airbag worked because the light thats supposed to come on when you start the car never has. On the other hand, I don't really wanna find out. Sorry to hear about your car and good luck with whatever happens.

how fast were you going Death? was it a head on crash? they say those first-gen bags are useless anyway. you're better off with a roll bar/cage and a 5pt harness

I'm an avid supporter of deer season and poisoning raccoons,

Anyway what's the deal with the airbags on these cars.....has anyone actually had theirs deploy on them??? I'm afriad to find out what i need to do to get mine to go off........

P.S. I also hit a pole at MIA airport before......security checkpoints need to be widened.....

Ya, to answer your question it was head-on. Right through the brick wall. Thats what worries me the most, the fact that the plastic front end would not have gone through brick, but steel will. So Im worried I might have a damaged frame. And we all know that Damaged frame = totaled. More to come later. I'll find out this afternoon if she's salvagable.

i wonder if maybe that brick was actually that fake brick crap that's made out plaster or something. i would think that if you were able to pop your plastic bumper back out that there wasnt enough deceleration when you hit to deploy the bag

It's too bad about your car. I don't have an airbag. How much force is required on impact before the airbag deploys?

What are you going to do with your steering wheel? Do you plan on getting another air steering wheel or a regular non-airbag steering wheel?

ChuckEverly, Sweet ride, if you wait like 3 years from now, I'll buy your car!

89Irocz23, thats true there does seem to be a lot of accidents happening suddenly (mine included). Maybe its something more, maybe it has to do with the fact that Camaro's are technically ending?? I dunno, but I wish my car wasnt in an accident. I still wonder how I did it, how its totalled being it looks nothing like totalled, and cant believe how much it costs to fix for such an old car, with all these parts available?? Oh and btw, I got my car from a kid who was an auto mechanic, no old ladies here. However the previous owner before him was a mom and dad.. musta been the son's though. However the car I drive now, was owned by old lady who drove it to church at grocery store, so its an '88 with only 80,000 miles.

I have seen an airbag deployed in the junk yard. And the bags will only go off if the impact is greater than a certain "G" force, but going through a wall should have been enough to set it off. Good luck with the car. Hope it can be fixed without a problem.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed members seem to wreck their rides in groups?

Well go through a few months with no one wrecking, then in like 2 weeks we'll have 4 or 5 members wreck.

I had to get a new fender, hood, front clip and all that stuff.......Too bad i wasn't all into cars when i first got it other wise i would have went with a SS fiberglass hood and parts.....Cost me about $900 through a dealership....

Yes that was with ONE car.......the sturdy and reliable 92 camaro.....

P.S. On a side note.....almost every accident i was in was the other persons fault(raccoons and deer included)......not to bash cause i know that some are great drivers, but every one involved a women driving the other car........I even think the animals were female...

These airbags are HORRIBLE......If it did go off it would probally kill me considering i'm only 5'5"

Welp guys speak of the FVCKIN devil!
I just got into another accident with some damn foreigner! I was driving down the road, the light was green, so I wasnt paying attention to him. I see these stupid kids wanting to pass the street (but apparently they cant). Theres this sign that says stop for pedestrians. Theyre pointing at it, but once again, green light. Then all of a sudden I look at the guy in front of me, and HE STOPPED! For a green light?! The kids weren't even passing the street yet. And he stops in front of a green light. His POS Protege got just scratches in the back, while of course I once again, get most damage, I can still drive it, need new front piece or whatever. Can't drive at night due to light misalignment. I was ready to knock this guy out, so I just walked in circles, clapping my hands together, which should have been fists to his head. I can't believe this another accident.
Grand Am: Totalled by sliding on ice into a tree
IROC: Totalled by going to fast into exit and hitting curb
Oldsmobile: Damaged by rearending some ***, no pun intended.

Yo guys whats the deal? Help me to stop getting into accidents, I don't think I have many accidents left in me. Next one might be worse.

ChevyLuva3,
You sound like my brother. He wrecked 2 cars in a week. he now has a 2001 Malibu, and his insurance will go to $389 a month next August. He is 19. His plan now is to move near campus, and take the bus, or ride a bike to class. This way he does without the car payment (if it sells), and the insurance.

Well I'm not sure about in the US but here in Canada I'm pretty sure we're supposed to stop in that situation, although we usually have crosswalks with flashing lights overhead. Pedestrians have the right of way...

Yeah stop for pedestrians, but not at a green light. Pedestrians are suppose to walk across according to the light as the cop stated.

One thing you have to understand about foreigners is that their rules and regulations are vastly different than in the U.S. and since they are probably new to the country, they have to get used to our way of driving.

I have never been in an accident in my life. It is very bizzare in my case because my car acts up before something could have happened. On one occasion my car stalled in a turning lane and if the car behind me had not passed me (while stalled), it would have been me that was T - Boned by someone running a red light. Talk about lucky.

Yeah welp ya live and learn.. AGAIN and AGAIN.. ugh.
So far what I've learned:
.Icy/Snowy conditions drive like 20mph tops or not at all
.Get into right lane for your exit atleast a mile away
.No need to get into left lane, it only gives you excuse to speed
.Always watch the car in front of you
.Stop settling with old, used brakes, buy new ones
.Get your sleep!
.No need to speed fast out of a corner, no need to spin your tires, no need to go fast at all, all of these are maneuvers that are used to look cool.. but tell me, whens the last time ya someone do these, and thought they were cool?
.And if you don't get enough rest, drive slower, and keep more distance, you'll never have good reaction rate
.And last, but I'm sure not last.. Cars don't hate me, its the way I drive that causes the crashes

Welp, I'm sure I'll learn more, hopefully no more crashes, pray for me, and for the immediate fixing of my car, I will do the same for you all. Buckle Up!

..oh yeah and one last thing, my bro drives this POS chevy wagon, well its is chevy , but its so slow, and its a wagon. And he keeps sayin for me to get some whimpy 4 cylinder car. I always thought he was dissin me cause I can't handle the power. But now I think he's sayin it from his own experience, not that WE both can't handle power, its that WE LOVE it. Any chance we get in a fast car, we rip. Any chance we're in a car we rip. I think thats why he has the slowest car right now, cuz even if one day he decided to rip, he cant really. Maybe a 4 cylinder car will save my life, but I just love fast cars. What ya call that? Catch 22? Devil's advocate? Obsessive car nut? I dunno, all I know is that, well I dunno, all I know is I wanna live my life to every moment I can, some days I can, some days I can't, but hopefully I can look back at it, and be happy with it. Peace.

I drive like a Grandma. If I ever let loose (how loose can I get in a V6), its on an open road by myself. Thats what probably keeps me from getting into accidents.

Good that you're learning, but sometimes its not bad let loose around a corner. Just do it safely where no one is around and be careful. Good luck fixing your cars man.

If the sign says to stop for pedestrians with no reference to the lights, then you're supposed to stop for pedestrians. The colour of the light is irrelevant in that case. Personally, I would've stopped. But hey, it's your car.
