Freakin Gravel Trucks

I went to get my Torque Thrust II's on my car today....but the idiots ordered the wrong backspacing for the front....so..they couldn't install them today.....anyhow....on my way home....A gravel truck passed me...and a big clod of dirt hit my hood...and sratched the **** out of it..and put some big chips in my windshield... Looks like it might be a re-paint and a new windshield. I'm not toing to try any buffing compunds on it yet till me slow *** insurance company get's back with me. It might not be cover though....I don't have full coverage...but I have comprehensive.....ths just freakin sucks guys...

i live near a gravel company that always is driving up and down the highway losing **** out the back of their trucks if something hits your car you just have to follow the truck or get it's plate # and call the gravel company and tell them and they will repair/replace your car with their insurance

the reason they do this is it's very illegal to have something in your vehicle (especially for a company like thiers) come lose on the highway and damage a car and possibly hurt somebody

just to let everybody know incase this ever happens to them

Got a new windshiled this way. Owner of the company didnt want to "bother" with it, but directed us to his insurance company. They were more then pleasent to fix it.

I dunno about anywhere else, but here I was told they had passed a law few years back that they were to cover the loads. But obviosuly its not inforced, they still drive uncovered.

I came home and told my dad....and he said the same thing. The only thing is....is how can I prove anything really? I couldn't get the guys license plate number....but I know exaclty where the place is...it's like a big gravel pit place with gravel and dirt...

by the way....my wheels will be installed on Monday....so..I'll post a new thread when I get some pictures of'em mounted on my car. I dont think the guy I got them from knows what he's talking about about....He said that 17X9.5's won't fit up front.....but....I think he ordered the wrong offset or something...sooo...I'm going to go ahead and get 17X8's for the front and 17X 9.5's in the rear. (Torque Thrust II's)

that really suchs. that isn't that bad though. it will probably cost around $150-200 to be fixed. good luck.

not to get off topic but where did you get your wheel from and how much were they. i love the look of TTII's on a black third gen. i really want to get them. i want the 17x8 in front and 17x9.5 in the back. could you let me know what you backspacing is. thanks alot. i can't wait to see them on you car

Sux about your car man. 17x9.5's will fit upfront! I have em'. You need a 5.5 inch backspacing all the way around. Did alot of research to find that out and the dumb a$$ who got me mine lied to me on the spacing , they still fit but my rears hit the fenders and eat up tire. I know for a fact they will fit because I called American Racing for a set of TThrust 2's and thats what they said I needed but I went with a diffrent wheel.

That happened alot when I was up in Washington state. Gravel trucks up and down the highway. You have to get the truck plate or number, then report it to the company.

well....I'm still going to wait on my insurance company to call back...but the more..and more I look at it.....it looks more and more like a "mar" or how ever you spell that. I try to feel it....but....it really can't even be felt....like it's not a gouge or a scratch...I just bet that I can buff that out with some Perfect It III by 3M. I'm going to have to get a new windshield too...which will probably run about $200 bucks or so. Good thing we do paint and body work....but I'm just crossing my fingers that it's a "mar" And about the wheels...I'm getting them from a local tire shop called Hadsell Tire... Knew about the back spacing and he said he knew what to order.....looks like he didn't. He went ahead and ordered 17X8's for the front....but I'll still have 17X9.5 in the back. They will be on Monday, rain or shine. Getting them for roughly $1700.00

Sorry to hear

The same thing happened to me 5 months after I painted my 85.
The retarted city dept decided to do a tar and gravel highway since its dirt cheap to do. Anyways I was doing 15 mph on it cause that was the posted limit. I see this 18 wheeler hauling tail in the 15mph zone and I get all the way off the road into the ditch and stop. The truck passes and i'm in a rock hail storm. ding's, scratches, and paint chips all over the place + one huge pain chip on my front spoiler. I wish I could have gotten that asswipes liscens plate but he was LOOOONNGGG gone oh well i'll eventuall repaint the car again some time soon.

I would have gone down to that building and raised some serious hell there until i got to speak with a manager, it may be hard to go back 3 days later and get them to pay for it.........

It's things like this that are forcing me to retire my car as a daily driver, I hate having a project car that you have to drive everyday, you are always fixing crap that breaks or maintaining it, I rather just have to mod it...........

I hate rock trucks, they've hit other cars, other trucks, fire trucks, ambulances and one even went off the road around here and hit a parked airplane. They are the reason I know UFO's and Sasquatches don't exist, if they did a rock truck would have hit one by now. The only thing marginally worse than rock trucks are Volvo owners.

I keep looking at the marks left on my hood...and I'm about 95% that I can buff those out.....if I can...I'm one lucky SOB. If I can't buff them out....I hope I can just re-spray and blend the paint into the rest of the hood..I'd hate to re-paint and buff that whole hood. I'm buying and getting my new wheels tomorrow...and that will probably be the last thing I buy for my car.....and probably a new windshield. Thanks for posting everyone, I appreciate it....good to have a few friends out there that have been in the same situation.

Same reason hubcaps were used....

I was walking from the Naval base in San Diego one day to meet some friends at a bar. I didn't want to drive and get a DUI.

So....I'm walking and two guys are ahead of me about 40 feet also walking east.

As the pair get just near a road sign by the side walk, I hear a "whizzing" sound as a truck passes by on the street also going east.

TANG!!.....

WOK!!.....

and one of the guys drops to his knees while covering his head.

They both looked back at me like I had just shot him with a wrist-rocket sling shot.

I looked back at them blankly.....then I noticed something silver spinning in the street. I walked up to it......it was a lug nut from the truck that passed us.

It had come loose from the truck, whizzed passed me, hit the road sign, and then nailed the guy in the head.

If it had hit me or him straight on.....it probably would have killed one of us.

Check your lug nuts!!

Jim.

well...I have good news....my insurance is going to take care of it. They are going to send some insurance adjuster to my house to check out what happened to my car. So...they will cut us a check....then I can fix the hood, get a new windshield installed....and I'll probably have some money left over since me and my dad are going to do that work

that's what I thought too...but nope, the adjuster came out today, it's going to cost $324.00 for the windshield. He told us to try to buff out the damanged spot....and if it can't be done....we can have it..or we can re-paint it...the insurance will pay for it

I dont know if this counts as a "wreck" but alot of insurance companies cancel you if you have a certain number of wrecks in a certain number of years, for me its 3 in 3 years..which is why I had to pay for my new axle, wheel, and everything else (which hasnt been fixed) out of pocket this time =\
