Centercaps on the cheap
OK... I have an 88 ws6 with the black on silver centercaps and didn't want to pay for the logo inserts because thats money better off being spent to get it faster so...
I got some of that plastic 'shrink' paper (to make keychains and junk) and scanned the only good centercap and blew it up (That stuff really shrinks!) and baked it in the oven. Lightly sanded the edges to match size and misted a couple light coats of clear and then a heavy one to flow out without bleeding the ink. Put some 3M adhesive on it and they look stock (except they are a little 'flatter' and not as convex as the originals). It then came to me that I could change the colors (since originality isn't my primary concern) to better match my paint (white with plum accents) It takes a lot of time but just think of the possibilities... All you need is a logo of sorts and a good photo editer and you can make all kinds of small emblems. The only drawback is one sheet shrinks to about 4"x6" and the large sheets tend to curl over itself so you need to watch it and work it by hand a little while baking. Just an idea.
