I am in search for Centerbolt Valve Covers and am kind of dissapointed.

I have found only 1-3 with 3 holes.....so does anyone have pictures of their setups.

I am looking for NO CHROME (anything else) Centerbolt valve covers with 3 holes 2 for oil cap and PCV and 1 for breather on pass side. SOmething like these

But I cant get proforms because I have these and proforms covers have a lowered bolt hole and these have to sit flush..

Also this might be a stupid question but can I fill my oil through my diptick? If I can then I wont need 2 holes on one side and 1 on the other. I can just have 1 n 1. Let me know guys, thanks.

I run the Trans Dap version of the tall polished center bolt covers (2nd link). I used teh ball milled versions to match the lines in the intake. Mine have only two holes... PCV and breather. I installed Billet Specialties ball milled PCV, and breathers to match. I fill my motor oil through my breather hole... just pops in and out like a normal oil cap.

Damn that looks nice. Only problem is Trans Dapt is backordered at Summit and thats where I am buying everything....I am looking into these. Made by Billet Specialties but are the same design (minus ball-milled)

What Brake Resevoir Cover are you using? I think you told me before but I forgot. Do you know the part #. If not where did you buy it so I can go search there....unless it was summit. Lol.

The ones I have are from Summit and have no holes predrilled. That way you can put them at which end you want and they come with the baffles so you can put them in if you shoose to.

My theory is if you have to replace it ANYWAY, why not go bigger and aftermarket.

Mainly though Tall are to clear Roller Rockers....some get big, so you'll need the extra space at sometime.

Edlebrock Aluminum center bolt valve covers. You have to use the PCV hole as your oil fill.

I have the ones in the second pic. Nice thick polished aluminum. Only catch is the lip for the gasket is not deep enough. You have to glue the gasket to the valve cover to put them on. Unless you have like three sets of hands to use. Oh, mine are tall to clear roller rockers. And the hold down bolts have a tapered head to fit flush with the top of the valve cover.

As far as I have heard you cannot run smog with tall valve covers. But thats just what I heard.

I'm not sure that the smog equipment will be an issue. As far as I know, the only issue you may run into is the coolant diverter valve and associated lines, but I'm sure you can fab up a bracket to raise that valve a couple inches. PCV can be easily modified (if it's necessary at all) to work with tall covers, and there isn't any other smog equipment that I can think of that would be in the way.

I don't know if you are still in the market for the tall valve covers, but in case you are, I am in the same boat! Now, I am looking at my engine which is outside of the car and I see no reason why you could not use the taller valve covers, they should clear all of your smog equipment, even though the top edge may sit up against your AIR tube collector, but with a little careful bending you should be fine. I'm going to email proform to find out exactly how much taller the tall VC's are compared to the "stock height" ones.

My main reason for wanting the taller valve covers is that they are baffled where as the stock height ones are not, or atleast summit says they are not.

All in all, hopefully I will have more info on this subject soon! Wish me luck

I ended up purchasing Billet Specialties VC's (tall). I have yet to put them on but I recently removed all emissions besides EGR...as thats the most important. I will take pictures when finished.

Those are nice looking valve covers! I attempted to use a set of fabricated covers that had the internal gasket rail, and the front of the drivers cover would make contact with the postive post on the alternator. The external rail on the ones above might??? have enough clearance (but looks a little tight).


I would definitley pay the extra 95 cents to have the oil filler and pcv holes!!

Billet Specialties...

Used a scuff here and there. I had them ON, no problem, I just don't need them. After replacing my intake I just went with the stock ones. Just have other plans.

Trying not to hi-jack, but if anyone wants it its up for sale.

I ordered these out of the Classic Industries catalog, and they have the same amount of holes as the factory ones due.
The only thing I did, was to switch sides to make it easier getting to the oil filler cap.

I bought Moroso valve covers (chrome) for my 1988 FB 350TPI and had them modified inside to clear the roller-rocker arms

you could always take them off and send them out to be powder coated. What a difference that makes. They come back better than new and give your engine a different look.

I agree. I used to work in a powdercoating plant and it's a quick and easy way to make an old set look new. The color choices are very nice and diverse as well. While I was there I powder coated in almost any colour you can think of. The only thing that a powder coater generaly can't do without alot of expense is color match what is already on the vehicle. The coater can't mix the powder like paint, it comes from a supplier in the color requested. anyway these are my covers and engine:


I powdercoated the TPI plate in red and clear and I coated the valve covers in chrome black (smokey black) over a metalic silver. A number of brakets and the egr lines are coated in a semi-gloss black. (The plenum and runners are painted in Metallic graphite)

i sandblasted my centerbolt valve covers and used plasti~cote chevy orange, everyone thinks they are powder coated, and the paint job has 25,000 miles/ 3 years on it and still is good, i also clean my motor every time i wash the car. I seen wrinkle finish on them to that looks good, you can always use black wrinkle and the follow up with any color you want for a sharp look to. You can always strip all the paint and polish or swirll up the natural metal then use clear cote motor paint for a natural look that wont tarnish. if thats not your taste you can find a 2 hole set one for the PCV and one for a combo breather/oil fill easy to find at jegs or sumit or your favorite autoparts store. It will take a year and 2 days to fill via the dipstick! Also there is an adapter to make old school valve covers fit a center bolt, but they are as much as i high quality set of valve covers and then you got to go buy valve covers
