Re: side molding mod

Are you talking about removing the door molding? If so, then yes it is taped on. And you should try applying some sort of heat to loosen it up a bit.

Also, don't pull too hard/fast. The paint will come off with it.

Re: side molding mod

Not all were double stick. The earlier ones 82-? You kno the thin black style, those I believe are riveted on. Also have any of the parts of your car where the molding are been repainted. If so they may have painted over the molding. Depending on the age of the paint you may notice a differene in color due to fading, especially red.

Re: side molding mod

Its an 86 Z w/ original paint, the moldings are white as well, the main reason why i want to remove them is they are turning yellow in some spots and it looks bad. I think it would give the car a cleaner look as well, just worried about removing paint along w/ the molding

Yeah, the 82-? had holes in the door where the molding went on. There are three or four holes. I am repainting my camaro now and am doing this Looks good in primer alone. I have seen cars with shaved door handles and no molding that look awesome. Mine was a 92 that was purple, there was a difference in brightness of paint, though it might no be noticible once it was cleaned up and polished/waxed.

Re: side molding mod

My 89 Gta had the moldings removed. When I had my 85 z painted they replaced the molding and it was just double sided tape. I have been thinking of doing the same thing to the 85z.
