Some pics of the 1407hp TA that set a speed record

I know you all have seen the Polly T/A from Norway before. Last week it set a speed record on Mercedes' test track in Germany of 394,2 km/h (~245mph!)on wet pavement!
That is 25mph higher than the previous record set by a Group C Mercedes race car, set on dry pavement. It is also supposedly the 3rd highest speed recorded for a street regged car. Pretty cool for a 3rd gen TA, huh? He was going to test it further after it dried up, but then the 5th gear gave out so he had to quit. He claimed it had more in it !

The testing was a part of the preparation for his long term plans of participating in the Silver Sate Classics with the T/A

Anyway, here is a shot of it at the track - we can all just wish:

Big enough?

Re: Some pics of the 1407hp TA that set a speed record

That's an interesting hood in the last pic. It's the first time I've seen something like a Ram Air II hood look "right" on a thirdgen. Don't get me wrong - very often they look "good," but that one really looks like it belongs there. Just look at the angles, they're perfect.

Re: Some pics of the 1407hp TA that set a speed record

I saw the title and was like "probably just another drag car". Glad to see it's not. That thing is AWESOME! And I have to say, it looks good on 20's. I always thought 20's on a thirdgen would look MASSIVE but on that car they look just right.

It is just an insane car! Im sure there are lots of pics and videos to be found by some googling as several of the shows the videos above were from, are attended by 30-40000 spectators

Oh, and the rims are BBS RC 9x20” og 10x20”.

So wait, your saying if I give my car 1400 hp it'll do 245...Who wants to buy my one of those new LSX blocks

Also, those 20's look really good, it's probably too low for most streets though.

Any idea what they did to get it to hold together at that speed? I would have expected a lot of parts needing reinforcing...

Their website seems to be down unfortunately.

I can't imagine a fiberglass ram air hood holds up too well, lol. Other than that though he must have done something to keep the side windows from popping out from the low pressure...Just gave me an idea. I could get an extra set of t-tops that lock the window into them (as in the windows would have to be down to open and close the doors and roll up into the t-top glass) and just put them on when I plan on going faster than 150 or so with my windows up.

I love the sound of the car. Muscle cars can take imports on a regular race track. If any imports ever say they can take a muscle car on a track like that i'm going to show them that video.

From what I could see on the web page (and I know NO norwegian) it looks like it has a 540 cu.in. big block with the turbo generating 17psi at max HP. Can anyone who knows norwegian confirm or deny that?

4464lbs and 50/50 weight distribution!? WTF? Did he fill the rear cargo area with cement to counter weigh that big block or something?

Anyway, a 2.2 0-60 and 5.5 0-124 is fast!

Re: Some pics of the 1407hp TA that set a speed record

Most of what you see is tire smoke

Oh, and I don't know how he managed to get the weight distribution - it doesn't say anything about that on the page. I had hoped to see it at the next event this fall to check it out a little closer, but Im guessing he is in Nevada at that point. I missed last years event when he was there, or actually I was a day late. He was there saturday and I was sunday... my luck.

BTW, I thought I'd mention (although slightly off topic) that if any of you enjoyed the videos and would like to see what else we are up to over here - do a search on YouTube for "gatebil". That will give you lots of results. That is if you find 1100hp M5s, 1000hp VW Golfs, 1000hp BMW E30s and so forth, fun to watch (oh, and if you don't mind some wild blond ba...ooops never mind)

Maybe it's mid-engined to get that weight distribution?... Might explain how it all fits under the bonnet.

Those ford 9" diffs certainly get around.
