NASTY LOOKING COOLANT TANK !!!

O.K. i as many others am tired of trying to clean inside of coolant tank . today i tried another method . i have an extra tank to try it on , used soap & water and let dry . i then plugged/capped outlet with heavy duty plastic sandwich bag & rubber bands . poured in about a cup of "LIQUID - PLUMR POWER GEL" (thats the spelling on the bottle ) sealed top with more plastic & rubber bands . sloshed it around , let sit on one side for 1/2 hr. , sloshed around again , let sit on another side for 1/2 hr. , repeat till all sides get a good soak . after all areas get a good soak remove plastics , insert garden hose & rinse good . i could not believe how much crud cleaned out . not new clean but darn close , better than any other cleaning method i have heard of . thought i would pass it on , good luck .

True but, a lot of us can get Liquid Plumber from under the sink.
It doesn't take long for a bottle to tarnish which means $20
today, another $20 later in the year when showing off the car,
etc...

As can be seen in my pics, they look damn near new with this
method.

What color? You mean the liquids in the bottles?
No offense but i think your full of it. Show me
pics and i will believe you.

The washer fluid bottle is new, the coolant bottle is
the one i cleaned and as you can see the bottle colors
are the same. They both look new.

Maybe you need to color adjust your monitor.

Both bottles have about one year of use on them.
I'll try and get pics outside rather then under my
garage lighting.

When seen in person they are white. However as i
stated above it doesn't take long for them to start
tarnishing ergo, why spend $20 EVERY TIME you want
clean bottles when there is liquid plumber under the
sink.

they have a little yellowish tint to them but all of them do. I mean if your really trying to show your car install some chrome overflow tanks. And showcars dont even neeed the washer reservoir. My DD doesnt have one.

My statements stands. I was referring to your remark...

Unless you don't run your motor there is no way 20 year old
bottles look as clean.

P.S. and yea my pics suck

Re: NASTY LOOKING COOLANT TANK !!!

Don't think so? Most people don't take good enough care of their cars to think that the whole car in general can look as good as mine does at 21 years old either. Paint is from 1992. That care extends to under the hood.

Look at my car, dude. You think it's a dirty pile of brown under the hood? It's got 150k on it, and the bottle looks clean, but a tinge yellow like what you have shown in your link. I detail the bay regularly, and I don't drive the car through dirty filthy crap. The bottle is still in good shape, but I have a NOS one at home ready to go for it too.

Indeed your car looks great. Mine is only 29 years old with a
11 year old paint job that saw 9 years of parked outside. You
would be surprised how many great looking cars look like $hit
under their dress. If your a detail freak then yea, i stand corrected.

Still lots of detail work unfinished under the hood.

Wish mine was dropped like yours. 2" Intrax springs
didn't seem to drop it at ALL up front so i removed
the rears till i get these front springs cut. Am sure
weight loss up front had something to do with not
getting any drop.

Yeah I went with Eibach Sportlines. No rubbing, nothing of the sort. Lowered it just the perfect amount IMO. Can't believe I rolled around for so long without being lowered, made a huge difference in the car's appearance.

I'd be a complete detail freak with my car if I could park in a garage and get it repainted along with some dent removal. Even still with parking it outside I try to wash it once a week and sometimes more often than that.

I'll keep my stocker. holds plenty of coolant for reserves and doesnt look that bad IMO. it looks worse to have the black cover off the front of the nose cone with the bottle mounted there. Its easy to inspect in the stock location too.

Re: NASTY LOOKING COOLANT TANK !!!

I will keep my stocker to I guess I will just take some of that liquid plumr to it as right now it is full of what might be this coolant enriched sludge. I can try to post up pics but it wont be for a while because it will snow tomorrow but if I can I will take some and then take some after pics as well to show the results. But it is pretty nasty.

Old snowmobile fuel tank trick.............add a handfull of gravel to the cleaner mix. This adds some abraision while sloshing around.

Re: NASTY LOOKING COOLANT TANK !!!

A suggestion: Drain and fill the coolant system with a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and distilled water. Run engine up to operating temp with the radiator cap off (about 10 minutes). Drain and flush, THEN clean the bottle and refill with fresh coolant. That should stop the engine crud from re-staining the bottle...

Those are Trick Flo valve covers. K&N Xstream 14" air cleaner.
The canister looking thing is a fuel pressure regulator which i
have since removed. After installing a Holley 100gph fuel pump
i was having pressure issues and vapor lock. I then figured out
that CARBED mechanical fuel pump f-bodies HAVE TO HAVE
fuel return line 'vapor return', which none of the performance
mechanical pumps have. I was lucky enough to remember an
article in Car Craft magazine about the RobbMc Performance
Products - Chevy SB 550HP Fuel Pump - PN 1042. It has a
Vapor Return Option PN 1010. That took care of the vapor
lock and i get perfect pressure, so no need for the regulator.
