What I spent an hour doing this morning

Woohoo! 4th Gen Firebird Seats!

To put them in, you need:
1- the seats. duh.
2- medium sized phillips screwdriver
3- 13mm socket
4- 13mm wrench (you could just use this and not the rachet, but why unless its all you have? It just was easier in a couple spots where the rachet didn't fit so good)

How to do it (its NOT exactly rocket science)

Unscrew the seatbelt clip from the headrest and take it off. Take the little covers off the ends of the tracks with a screwdriver. Unbolt the seat, there are 4 13mm nuts holding it down, bolts are sticking up through the floor. Pull it out. Repeat this on the other side.

Using the wrench or an extenstion on the socket (makes it easier) remove the 1 bolt that holds each of the bottom rear seats in. Then they just pop right out. There is one bolt on each side, on a hinge, that holds the rear seat back in. Unscrew those and the seat back comes right out.

To put the new seats in, just do all of this backwards!

The old seats. Not that there was really anything wrong with them, and they had nice seat covers which came with the car when I bought it. The drivers one had a rip and was worn clear to metal though on the side in a small spot.

No seats! This took about 20 minutes working by myself. This is a VERY good time to hit the carpet with a shop vac, since theres some stuff you just can't get to with the seats in.

I just got my set of 4th gen seats. Not the cool leather ones like yours but a massive improvement over what I got now

Im gonna take the opportunity to rip out the brown (once upon a time it may have been grey) carpet and install black or charcoal, whichever I get sooner.

Thanks for the pics and steps. Your driver seat wasnt power was it? Do you know where I can tie into to power my seat?

I got really lucky on the find. Heard from a freind who heard from a freind who knew where they were at a nice local recycler. They weren't even in stock yet when I asked about them. I told them I'd pull em myself but they said they can't let me do that for insurance purposes. So they said they'd do it that week, and I came back and bought them for $185 after tax. NOT A BAD DEAL! Especially for not taking them out myself.

No, not power. They do have that inflatable lumbar thing, but I didn't get the air pump with the seats. Oh well I can live without trying to wire that all up.

Oh yeah definately, I'll let everyone on here know if I find more deals like that. I just wonder what shipping would be like. Actually, I'll extend t hat to if anyone has junkyard parts that you want me to keep an eye out for, PM me or Camrs89 or Black85Trans AM, we all hit the local yards periodically and live in the same town.

Man you're not kidding. You should see all the TBI stuff we found down at Darst, I wanna write some RPOs down and find out of those caprices have 350s in them. If so, I'm grabbing some injectors and ECMs for possible future 350 swaps. Heck maybe I should just save more $$ and buy the whole motor from the car

Hey Camrs89,

Are these the ones your speaking of? I got these from a paint and body shop for $100 total. Front and back.

They look good in my red and charcoal Firebird.

Peace

Thanks,

got them about a year ago now. I think they look really awsome in my charcoal and red firebird.

They are cloth not leather seats. I didn't dye them or anything. Just pulled them from a 93 camaro and bolted them in my ride.

I have an 84 brown and tan S/E that I am working on. I am keeping my eyes pealed for a tan set of 4th gen seats to put in there. The stock seats are those dual contour vinyl. Not too big of a fan of those.

heh just nabbed a set of buckets out of a wrecked late model cavalier. Damn sharp and fit nicely too. They provide a littlebit more lateral stability than the stockers too. All i had to do was swap my rails with the cavalier's rails and bolt them in.....well i've only got the passenger's side done. Got it all finished and started on the driver only to find that my rail on my old seat was actually toast and broken about 5 inches back from the bolt. @#%%@#$ gotta hit the yard and see if tha dood will let me have the rails off of a thirdgen he's got there....i hope i don't have to buy those seats too as for parts to keep your eye out for i've looked everywhere for the inside arm rest (between the seats) that covers the compartment ... mines broken and today i've noticed a tear in the top from the flex probably. this troubles me greatly . I'm lookin to replace it or upgrade it. Been thinkin about alternatives like aluminum or wood but don't want to look halfassed or crappy heh *duh* anyhow nice lookin interior fellas...

"the inside arm rest (between the seats) that covers the compartment "

Havin a hard time finding one? Huh kinda suprising but if you want, next time I'm parts hunting I'll ask about pricing if I find one in decent shape.

Cavalier seats fit with just a rail swap huh? Thats kinda neat, never heard that before, but I don't really know what they even hardly look like. Oh well I'm always up to hear about something different.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! your flippin jugheads it's not a 1/2 inch nut that holds the seats to the floorboard. IT'S A 13 mm nut. I only spent 2 hours in the damn rain going back and forth from my car to the donor in the junk...er...salvage yard until i just grabbed my whole toolbox and brought it with me. Over the truckframe under the taurus throught the tractor ruts and between the van and edsel past the fiero and squeeze between the festiva and tree then *swim* through the damn swamp, well wade anyway, to the poor lil blue 84 camaro that went through hell

poor thing didn't look all that bad 'cept for all the fake nails in the floorboard and the spiderwebs some jerk yanked the drive train and left the carcass there to rot...LUCKY MEE! lol anyhoo i got them both in and really like them...might be tilted a little too far back but a quick spacer and that will be fixed...i'm not sure how but i'll try to get some pics...and yes all it needed was the old seat rails and patience....of course a complete tool kit came in handy and maybe nexttime i'll bring an umbrella

Yeah, um, sorry about that, you're right. I found this out last week while we were putting Black85transam's seats in. For some reason, the 1/2 socket in my tool box worked, but it has some weird pattern inside, maybe some sort of universal? I dunno, I don't know much about tools, just how to use them But when we put his it, we had to use a 13mil. I'm gonna edit my original post so this dosne't happen to anyone else.

Well I'm in Ohio right now, but was curious, did Jamey's finish putting his seats in yet? When I get back, I am buying those red ones. I got a nice paycheck so all three of us will have new seats!!!

I swear, he has the worst luck with that TransAm. First some guy backs into it, never leaves a note, then every single bolt on the car is striped or so rusted we cant get it off!!
