Shaving my antenna

So yeah I started the body work on my 91 Z28 this weekend. Eversince the day I bought the car I didnt have an antenna on the car and never listen to the radio [cds only cant stand the talking] so I want to remove all the antenna stuff. I dont weld and I dont want to pile a bunch of bondo in the hole... Has anyone done this if so can you tell me what you did and how it turned out.. thanks alot.

I shaved my antenna hole for hte same reason. I dont really listen to the radio that much so I shaved it. I put some sheet metal that I formed to the same shape as the body. (Via body hammers) and then I spot welded it to the inside of it. Then put some bondo. O_o so I guess I did it the way you dont want to O_o. It turned out really nice. It looks so much nicer without the antenna in my opinion.

I plan on shaving my antenna also.. I was thinking more on the lines with getting an antenna that goes around the winshiel, I went to Radio Shack the other day and they said they dont have any car audio stuff anymore. Are there other options? thanks guys.. oh and REVLIMIT, that looks much cleaner with out the antenna.

Go to your local glass shop and they can put in a windshield with an antenna in it.

it isn't a code it's a custom mix.......

heavy metallic gold and silver base mixed layed over a flat gold primer; house of colors red kandy clear...little bit of pearl and a few other special indgredients.

looks sharp, if i had to do it again i would make something a little more simple.

heres what I did. Some stereo places and probably places like radio shack and what not. They sell this strip thats about 1"x14" and its paper thin. You just hook it up to the radio and you can stick it where ever you wish. Mines is under the dash board. And it works pretty damn good for reception. It was atcually meant for like pager reception and what not. But it uses the same frequency as the radio. So it acts as a mini antenna. Only costs like $15

Shaved mine.

Though I have the same problem as Kandied. Not one notices. Heck, they don't even notice the handles and filler door are gone too. I always have to tell the show officials, they never notice.

I had a service guy flushing my injectors yesterday. He walked over to the car and put his hand where the handle would be and looked shocked. He looked at the door for a bit and asked how. I said the remote on the keys. I had the window down and the keys in the ignition though. I reached in the window and opened it by the inner door handle for him.

Its so weird. I'm so used to it now. I still drive the car everyday to work. We used the cut metal welded in and light filler method to do mine.

Rear cargo compartment. The gas station attendants think I'm crazy. They never know what I'm up to. Most prob think I have a gas can back there that I'm filling.

Do what I did - get a regular one-piece antenna and just slip it in behind/under the dash. I placed one under the dash that way and have had zero trouble with reception. Now I just gotta fill the hole in the fender!

rob is right, i've tried everything from the small cellular antennas, powered hiden antennas, to even the old radio shack $5 thin wire you tape on the windshield.

the radio shack version was my best bet, but i'm definately just going to use my stock antenna mount and hide it up inside the passenger compartment.

wether you like the radio or not it's nice to know you can listen to it........nothing worse than getting into the ride to have bad reception.

We cut patterns from a junkyard panel and fit them in and tacked welded the holes up. Slowly though to not warp the metal. Then we used some bondo hair for the lows and reg bondo to skim the surface. Worked great.
