I have my 88 Firebird that i want to conver to 91 92 trans am style. I have both bumpers and access to all but 2 of the ground effects, but i do have an entire set of ground effects off an 85 TA so im curious if anybody has done this and has any pics or of how hard it is t just convert to the entire 91 92 Firebird. Im currently in the process of converting an 88 firebird over to a TA clone. Im useing the 85-90 pieces though. The one thing thats a pain is setting up the pieces that run down the body under the doors to screw the side skirts into. Its a lot easier with 2 ppl. Measureing off where to drill all the holes in the body is pretty simple. If youre going 91/92 there are a lot pieces youll need for the nose that go behind it. The grill inserts, foglight assemblies, and the crush absorbers may be different.

all the parts
Iv got all the fog lights, turn signals, bumper(actual bar), impact absorber. The only things im missing are the actual headlight assembies out of the 91 92 style, but ill just modify what i have.
Im still hoping others have pics of cars they did with 91 92 or at least some info where i may see them. Thanks

If you are looking to put the 91/92 front facia (sp) on your older bird you're in for a time. The fenders on the 91/92 are unique, they are different than all of the other years. For starters the front end where the plastic front piece goes on is shorter, the older ones had 5 studs go through there, the 91/92 only have 4, making them about 2"+ shorter from bottom to top.

Story
I have all the ground effects but passenger front fender. and iv got the front bumper on and bolted on with no problem. The front groung effect goes on with no problem as long as i dont mind modifiying for holes. IV got complete doors now so i wont have to worry about those, they are off of 92 and have the peices already on them. SO iv all the peices minus one that i can buy new, im just curious if there is anything in particular to headlight and wiring that people ran into.

Are you sure that the fenders are dfferent? Everything I've ever seen says 82-92 for fenders.

Also according to an estimating program i have at work, the part number for a fender for my 89 is the same as the part number for a 92

Special 91-92 fenders = My 91 Formula nose bolted right to my '83 fenders. I would recommend getting the headlights. I tried to do it without changing the headlights and even with the trim bezel removed they would catch on the front bumper cover.
You'll need to extend your turn signal wires down to the new locations in the bumper. Other than that, it sounds like you have everything handled.

I just replaced a fender on my 91 firebird and the replacement was for 91-92 only. get a 90 and lower fender and set it next to a 91-92, the differences will become aparent. The Camaro fenders are interchangeable from 82-92 but not the Firebird's.

GM seems to think that 85-92 (model depending) are the same...

The front part of the nose that mates to the fender has 4 studs on a flat metal piece to hold it to the fender, which has 4 holes in it for the studs to go through. While looking for a fender for this car I went to the junkyard and pulled the nose off of a 90 bird and was going to grab that fender until I realized that its nose piece had 5 studs holding it to the fender and the metal strip they were on was a good 2.5-3 inches longer than my 91. There is no way that fender was going to work on my 91 bird with the "banshee" nose piece.
But, hey don't take my word for it, I'm just trying to save someone some heartache and possibly $$$

My 87 had 4 holes in it's fender and when ordering the news ones, there were only the 2 part numbers for fenders w/o vents. That's the same as what I posted. The new ones I got are "GTA" fenders (which fit any bird that doesn't have vents since they are the same)
I can't explain what you saw or why it was like that and I'm certainly not doubting you. I am just saying that there is only one type (ventless) fender avaliable (genuine GM parts) from GM and they have only 4 holes in them.

i did the 91-92 to 85-90 TA swap, and there was no incompatibility. i also grabbed an '86 firebird fender to replace a dented one, and it's the same, the only catch is i have a conv so the bottom bolt is to a bracket on the inside of the fender instead of the tab below it.
