Some pics of my interior hop up project

Did a littel paint work this week since its been nice hate the plainess of the interiors on camaros so i had already done the black sail panel's, and painted the door handle plate area around the locks and stuff. This time i tackled the guage bezel and front of the console including repainting the shift indicator deal on the back so theres no more yellowish light sneeking through it.
heres the bezel and you can kind of see the silver letterign of the camaro on the wheel

I am not usually a big fan of spray painting interior parts, but that looks great! Tastefully done.

I have to agree with the last two posters, the guage bezel looked good, and i can even go for the word camaro in silver, but the rest of the interior pieces look very cheap with the paint on them. However I am also on the fence about your vent mounts painting.. i like but i dont.. may just be the color... but thats my opinion and as long as your happy with your car keep up the good work!

i dont want to burst your bubble but it doesnt look good, it looks like you did it. Just leave the stuff the stock color or buy new stuff if the old stuff is faded, it looks out of place. but its your car and if you like it thats all the counts.

I don't care for it much either. I think it looks homemade. Don't get me wrong others have done it too, and I didn't like there's either.

Like nolan said....it's your car.

I agree. The guage bezel looks nice, the rest of it looks like a 5th grade art project. The previous owner of my car painted the bird on the dash and it looks like ***.

I kinda like the outside of the vents being painted. It sort of looks like its got metal trim or something. As long as the paint holds up and keeps looking metallic, i'd be happy with it.

Atleast you didnt paint everything yellow or something like that

WEll no **** it looks liek i did it but what thats supposed to mean just because you dont liek it you're trying to say i dont know what i'm doing or something? Becasue thats what it sounds like. They werent faded i just hate the fact that everything is the same color, thats the point of CUSTOMIZING cars making it look different then everything else.

Hi guys

I think it looks really good hun, lot better than the boring black that looks like a hearse on steroids.

It also looks professional and well done, if you don't mind i'd like to copy your idea onto mine (all be it a different colour) I like the style and individuallity you have created which sets off the rest of the car.
Good job and nicely done...

Take care, be good...

dude if you like it, it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks. people like to criticize on this board, and it often seems to get personal, doesn't it? i think it looks good overall, but the bezel looks terrific. excellent idea.

i think it looks importy, very cheap looking, but the camaro on the wheel, and the gauge cluster would look ok with white face gauges.

Let me just say that when I said homemade, I don't mean the quality of your work. It looks fine. I just think that if someone had never seen a thirdgen Camaro interior, they'd still be able to tell it didn't come from the factory that way. It looks "homemade". That has nothing to do with quality...at least that's not how I meant it.

....don't get me wront the "factory" did a lot of things wrong. My car is an ongoing project to make it the way it SHOULD HAVE COME from the factory. Custom, but not like it "looks" custom.

I meant no disrespect to your workmanship, it's just not my taste. Homemade was the wrong term.

I think it looks pretty decent.. if you like it.. thats what counts.. but I've got to know.. what on earth is up with the "Green" on the door trim panel where the arm rest is???

That's some very unique and quite stylish custom work, irocbirdbuilder. I did a little detailing on my Z28 way back when I first bought it....though I didn't go to the extremes you did, I thought the red vents gave it a nice "race car" look to it.

I like it. I think it looks good . . . For me though I don't think I would paint the gauge bezel or center console. I do infact like the way the vents and the "camaro" looks. I painted my vents white and they turn out pertty good. They flow with the white face gauges, tach and a-pillar gauges. I wish I never pained my vents all one color though, I wish I would of though to outline them like yours.

I don't mind the gauge work and I can tolerate the A/C vent accenting, atleast you didn't paint the whole vent in some *** awful bright color like red, the rest looks tacky to me.

wow... that is the first "painting of dashboard pieces" jobs i've ever seen that doesnt look cheap and tacky.... good job with the gauge bezel and the rings around the a/c vents. although, i'm not a fan of painting the center console pieces....
either way, kudos for the tasteful job on the dash and picking a color that doesnt look tacky

I'm so pleased we can hear from experts in car aesthetics - like this man - who obviously inherently knows presicely what is tacky and what is tolerable.

Thank you for bringing nothing to this thread other than your obtuse and ultimately useless opinion.

FAst electrics the bottel i bought for the door panels was teal and dried extremely green. I never claimed to be an expert, I never claimed to know "what is tacky and what is tolerable." My opinion stated exactly that, my opinion. You have no justifiable reason to say my opinion is invalid, an invalid opinion is impossible by definition.

Feedback and personal opinions are what set the boundaries of what is and is not "the norm". It seems as though the majority of responses favor such a modification, which is fine. I'm comfortable having an "abnormal" opinion, but don't assume that abnormal opinions are useless because that would make you insecure and close-minded, and you don't seem like either.

For the record, I went to the last post and didn't realize until I revisited the post today, that you'd painted your vents red. I had to choose between yellow, orange, and red. I, being lazy, chose red, it was not a personal attack on your car. My "useless" opinion still applies though.

I apologize, your post caught me at a particularly maddening moment. Even if you were directly attacking me, it's not generally likely to bother me either way.

It seems a good number on these boards enjoy leveling disparaging, unhelpful comments rather than constructive criticism or helpful tips - especially with regards to unique custom work.

Doesn't matter, as I said, I jumped the gun in your case. Sorry!

You can't post pictures of you car here without getting positive AND negative feedback. I don't think anyone was criticizing you. You should have known not everybody was going to like it.

i think it came out pretty nice. The guages and steering wheel look sweet as do the vents. I'm undecided whether the center console is overkill or not, but it's good work you did either way. If I had your car, I'd be interested in eliminating all the yellow colored stuff (But i realize that would be a lot of work!!). I think the silver and black go great together.

lol i was never a fan of the dashmat either but its hiding the hideous dash. That things got more cracks in it than a plumbing convention. If i ever stop buying go fast and look good parts i'll be able to afford a new dash pad.

Yeah, okay. Why don't you stick to what you know and mind your own business. But, were you to do that, I suppose you'd never make any posts at all.

And that would be such a crushing loss.

Update: I just today repainted my door panel pieces as you can see in the 3rd pic they were green and black they are now a teal shade with teh silver outlining. Look much better than the dark green we had before on it.

A friend of mine did that, too... she painted most of the interior of her Neon the same blue color as her exterior. I think it looked great for a little while, but it didn't stay on the plastic for long. It scratched pretty easy... You'd probably be better off with a plastic paint.

I've been giving a lot of thought to the painted interior look... why doesn't anyone just paint the ENTIRE interior? The accenting idea is ok and all, but just doesn't cut it IMHO. Has anyone here swapped to a fourth gen interior? Sand and paint your thirdgen interior sitting in the garage or basement and let's see what we get.
