spraypainted my seats.......AWESOME loookin!!!

i recently bought new racing seats with harnesses that are all black and i decided that black back seats would compliment it perfectly. but instead of buying new seats i tried spray painting them with fabric spray paint. and they look FREGGIN sweet! they make the apperance of my whole car look so much better with my ttops off!

before (sorry its such a bad pic you get the idea of grey seats tho)

Looks good but isnt the spray paint gonna peel off of the trim area of the seat?

i dont think so. ive been messin with it and sitting on them and it has done alright so far. this paint is designed to stick well to fabric, vinyl, leather, plastic, etc. besides no one is allowed to sit back there anyway!!

I've been kicking that idea around, but also am worried about it wearing off so I havn't done it to my real seats yet. The stuff dose cover good.

This is an old pic. from when I put in my new carpet, and thought of doing the centers of my rears to try to make them look more like my fronts.

Personl opinion, Don't skimp and make it look good "for now". Lets see how well it looks in a year when its all faded and gross looking.

Its been said before: "You get what you pay for..."

Reapholsterer's aren't really that expensive. My father in law owns a shop and he does GREAT work.

I painted my seats 8 months or so ago with Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric paint. It worked excellent and still shows no signs of fade.

i used the dupli color as well. like i said it covered great and looks incredible. ive sat in them a million times already and they seem to hold up fine.......but oinly time will tell. as far as fading, i dont think they will fade any worse than any other cloth besides my beauty has tinted windows and stays in the garage 99% of her life!

Hhmmm, maybe it's time to go black with the 4th gen seats...

Looks VERY good, much better than I would have predicted. Excellent job.

so what exactly is this stuff called? I'll do my back seats too black, seeing as how you cant go back there easily because of the racing seats... meaning its going to be a 2 person maybe a 3 person at a time car...

heck, I am now thinking about doing my seats with some black triming like the 4th gen red/black seats. That would save me tons of money without having to buy new seats. Is this spray just the interior spray paint from auto zone type??? How many coats did you use? can anyone tell me if it rubs off or stays on pretty good??

Thanks

here ya go guys.......its called Dupli-Color vinyl and fabric paint from autozone. i used gloss black to bring out the trim on our back seats since it wouldnt make fabric gloss anyway, it looks Killer!!! its 5 bucks a can and you would need about 2-3 cans to do just the back seats. it doesnt rub off at all since its designed for this application. it comes in a lot of different colors as well. DO IT, it will make your seats looks brand new again!!!! then after youre done you can snap some pics and show them off to us here!

btw how many coats needed depends on how dark you want your seats. it doesnt take long at all to dry ether :lala:

Is it just me, or does Sonar's first picture look like the painted part of the seat is red and mottled?? I'm confused.

The second picture does look good though.

I thought the blue/red was a before painting shot, and the second was an after.

Would this work on carpet? My carpet is a couple of different shades of gray....dark, light, faded... lol...it is supposed to be medium dark gray.. ??

How much would be required to do a carpet I wonder? My carpet is in good condition just faded in places.. since I am doing my interior over (4th gen seats/console) I would like my carpets to look at least half way fresh...

I will have to check at the local "Autozone like" place... for Canadian's that means " Crappy Tire " aka Canadian Tire... they seem to carry all kinds of that stuff...

You think you could use that stuff to change the color of the interior plastics also? I'm getting tired of my "80's" Red interior and would love to go all black with it.

Yeah, I tried to paint the plastic peices on my seats when I did it. Even after some prepping time the paint just flaked off.

Oh well, I can say that it worked wonders on my seat. As for the red stuff, I have no idea what it was. All I know that it couldn't be cleaned. It still looks good to this day. The paint was a shade lighter than the rest of the seat, but its hardly noticable. One of these days I plan on redoing the entire seat.

well i used the same stuff on my 2001 TA console to make it black from grey and its holding up awesome so far. and the console it plastic so it should work for you. there is also the little plastic/vinyl trim on my backseat (all the 91-92 gouys would know) and the paint stuck better to that than to the actual fabric seat at first!!!!

dont dye your seats..... i did mine with quality black dye, my girlfriends legs went black when she was wearing a skirt, it was the funniest thing i ever saw but i ended up tossing the seats. IMO just get a black interior

I was told by someone who used the same stuff, and he wound up trashing the seats, and plastics because of , the seats after a while started staining thier legs, and when he accidently bumped his plastics with his boot, or dropped something in the cargo area. He said it looked very bad, very easily scratched, and nicked up. This is why I am actually lookin for the black factory plastics, and having my seats recovered the way I want.

I bought a red headliner for my 92 from a scrapyard cheep($20) and used that stuff and painted it black it took a few cans but it looks great and was still alot cheaper than a new one...i did that because I couldn't find a black one that cheap...if you take your time and spray it on lightly so it dont clump it works really well i think

i couldn't agree more, the paint wears off fast and leaves a powder-like residue on your clothing(i t doesn't stain them though) is better to have the seats reupholstered.

You can use the vinyl spray on plastic, but you should use the ahehsion promotor spray first....duplicolor too.
