1989 305 owners - HELP!
I am looking for clarification/help regarding the Vehicle Emission Control sticker placed under the hood. If a few 1989 305 V8 owners could step up and send me a closeup digital picure of the actual sticker I would be most grateful. I have a reproduction from Classic Industries, but I have a sneaky feeling it might not be historically correct, and if that is the case then I need to try to get the right one(the one they sent me has no diagram(s) on the right side of the sticker). I would also be grateful for the timing information on your sticker to cross check it with the info on the repro sticker I have to make sure it is the right information should a mechanic ever use it as reference. Your photos will also help me to confirm location placement of the sticker in question. All help greatly apprecited.

Well, that is a good question. I am am pretty sure this car in a TBI. I have an engine code E, and in my Owners Manual it says that an engine code E is Fuel Injected. Does this sort it out from the two choices of either TBI or TPI?

Well, I have a typical air cleaner housing sitting on top of a thing that looks like a carb, so I guess TBI it is. Now, before we move on to the help I am going to ask you regarding the Emissions sticker, what would a TPI look like from the top of the engine? Considerably different than a TBI or carborated engine?

Thanks for the info and forthcoming help. If you could please send two pics, one of the positioning(I believe it is on the underside of the hood by the passenger side headlight), and a closeup of the sticker itself, along with the timing info so I can check the one I have here. Perhaps I will have the right one which would be awesome...Thanks again!

Yes, the TPI looks considerably different.. nothing like a carburator.. more like a big spider on top of your engine.
Your car is an LO3 V8, TBI, its compression is 9.3:1 and it has 170 RWHP@4400 RPM and 255 RWT@2400 RPM. And since it's a manual it has a 3.08 rear end and is most likely a peg-legger (open rear).
You can find more info on your car here, as well as every other 3rd gen: https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml
On to your question.. I don't own a TBI so I can't comment, just wanted to give you some info.
Here's a pic of a TPI, for your enjoyment:
That was off someone's cardomain site that's a member here, don't remember who.

Hey Morpheus,
I took some underhood pictures of my 89 Formula for you tonight. The pictures show both stickers in detail and another shows their placement. The car is an 89 Formula 305 TBI.
I'll email them to you as an attachment.
