Mechanical to electronic speedometer

Is it possible to switch from a mechanical speedometer(85 Trans AM) to an electric type from an (88 GTA) without replacing the entire dash wiring harness?

Yes. I swapped mine in my 85 to a 87 or 88. You will need to repin the connectors or cut and splice the traces on the flex board. I did the cut and splice. You will need an electric sender and a buffer box. Don't forget to connect the signal to the ECM.
