Panel Clips beneath the Dash

Panel Clips beneath the Dash
Ok, I've posted about his once and a friend of mine did as well with no results. There is a panel under the dash on both the driver's and passengers side. 2 clips hold in the driver's side and 3 hold up the passenger side. Everyone tells me there are screws for this, but this is on 82-89 cars apparently. I have pics this time of the one that I have left, but they are too big to post. I can email them to anyone who wants to see them.

My car didn't have these hush panels when I got it. Been to several junk yards and have yet to see a third gen with them. Wonder what the option would be to get them on the car? Would surely have thought they'd attach with screws like most of the others I've seen. Sorry, no help, just rambling on.

I've asked many, many people for these. Everyone always responds the same. Their car has clip+screw system to hold them on. I even talked to Thomas from houseofcamaro and he said he was looking right at a 92 that didn't use these clips either. Maybe it was an option on 90-92s? I don't know.

The passenger side is held on with three screws and a push on lock washer. The driver's side under dash panel is held on with torx screws. The Driver's side hush panel is held on by three of those clips.
This is on my 92 TA and was the same on my 92 firebird. The passenger side can do with out the clips, you just have to install and remove the two driver side pieces as one. Take them both out and place the hush panel into the underdash panel like the clips would hold it with the tabs sticking through the dash panel. Then take long screws and screw them through the tabs close to the under dash panel. Now you can reinstall both pieces as one and the hush panel won't fall down.
Here's a pic of my passenger side. Mine has three holes where the screws go. Does yours have three tabs like the driver's?

Interesting. My dash doesn't even have spots where tabs could go through.. Might just be a firebird thing. Here's a thought I tried out. The screw clips that are all over the dash will work in place of those. You have to tweak the the clip a bit, but it snaps in and out just like the stock tabs. I have a dash shell I'm about to throw out if you want me to send you a handfull of these things to try out. Your tab is right, dash screw tab is left.

Those are slotted holes for screws to go through. You can see in my first pic that my screw holes are slotted too. Due to slight differences in assembly, they needed to be slotted to fit everytime.
The clips have to slide on tabs and then through holes. If that panel needed the clips, you would have to have another piece that had tabs on it.

Actually you should just need three screws for the passenger side. Here's a crude paintshop. Red is the hush panel and how it's laid out. Rear of the car would be towards the top of the pic. Should be able to look up at the dash and see matching screw holes.
If someone else reading this happens to have a dash and panel installed in the car, please snap a pic showing the screw holes in the car..

Correct. The driver's side is held in with those clips. The flimsy plastic panels are the hush panels (at least that's what I've always called them). The driver's side has a thick metal rubber wrapped panel directly under the steering wheel. That's the metal you see in my second picture. The flimsy plastic hush panel has tabs the stick up into the metal. The clips attach to the plastic tabs and hold the hush panel attached to the under wheel metal panel.
So, screws on the passenger side, clips and tabs on the drivers.

just take the clip up to az and go to their "help" section and search it out, i did the same thing when my rod to handle clip broke, much cheaper to do.

Do these look like the right clips? If not once again I would appreciate it if someone has some of these. I need the clips for the driver's side and the screws and washer for the passenger side.

They look like my clips, and inorder to keep the hush panels up you gotta use a screw that goes into the "clip"

Ive gone through many junkyards with camaros and birds with hush panels on them( 82-92), NONE of them had those types of clips of the hush panels, they had the tyep that you use a screw

They are on 90-92 camaros... I dont know about Firechickens... I got the clips from the dealer in the parts bin at service, they gave them to me for free, they are a non-inventoried item.
