t top sun visor problem help!

Hello
I have a t top conversion done to my iroc and it still has the hartop sun visors. They flap down when im driving and it drives me nuts.
How do i make them slow or hard to move so they stay up? Also is there a difference between hartop and t top visors?

Thanks

Speed

Hey, Speed,

There is a difference between the two. The coupe version is wider. Often what happens is that the rod which is inserted into the visor has broken loose from its housing/hanger, and as a consequence, rotates when it's designed to be stationary. As a result, flop will occur regardless of how much the visor is tightened to the rod. New hangers and you're ready to go. I bought mine at a bone yard for next to nothing.

I purchased the plastic inserts from the local Chevy/Pontiac Dealer. They cost around $1.00 per visor. All you have to do is remove the one screw that holds the visor shaft to the visor, slide the visor off, remove the damaged plastic insert, replace with new one, and reinstall the visor and the screw.

I did waste alot of time in the salvage yards looking around and then I decided to call the parts counter at the delearship...wow, they order it and it came in the next day. I ordered 6 of them for future visor problems..plus incase they get discontinued.

Later,

I've never heard of the insert's being a problem, but I can see how it might be. If it's the rod, however, the insert won't help.

I took my visors off today. The driver side has a broken plastic insert but the passenger one is mint. Yet they both flop equally. Im not sure what to do next to fix the problem... Do i need new arms?

Take the visor off the rod. Try jiggling and/or twisting the rod with your fingers. If the rod rotates/moves, you've found your problem.

You might be able to use some BD weld to fix the rod in place. I simply hit the bone yard until I found a couple that were unbroken. They work and look like new for a few dollars.

There is a screw on the visor itself, I just tightened it and it kept my visors from slowly falling down. I had hardtop visors on my t-top for a while, worked fine. I ended up shaving off the visors entirely since I never use them.

Well i would like to get rid of my visors because they are aged and ugly...But i cant because im not about to buy another head liner....I have a C&C car and it has the hartop headliner just cut like a t top and then glued like crazy. Besause of that i dont want to risk anythingby trying to do up another headliner.

Is there a method for re furbashing visors and tightening up the material?

Thanks guys
