Evoluzione power rear wing

I put the rear wing back together on my car and posted a video of it in action.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw74LQExLy8

The first version of the K1 Evoluzione kits had a wing that wouldn't allow the hatch to open. Style over function. The wings are mounted on sliding rails so you can pull them back and open your hatch.

I motorized mine and tied it in with the hatch cinching latch so they work together. All you do know is hold the hatch release button down until it pops. Closing is like normal, just push the hatch down. The wing will motor itself forward after the hatch cinches.

Simply without a rear wing, you'd be surprised. No wing or the metal below it no longer attached to the glass, it POPS!

I had just my wing off....The hatch almost hit me in the chin, when I unlocked the hatch with the key in the rear.

Re: Evoluzione power rear wing

That looks great! Any chance you could post up a how-to? Or at least a parts list and wiring diagram? I'd love to see how you got it to work.

Re: Evoluzione power rear wing

Thanks for all the positive replies! This has to be a record: 11 replies and no Evoluzione bashing.

Yes is it slow, but not too slow for me to add to the complexity speeding it up (i.e. bell cranks). Battery life is a good question.

...I've actually considered the air brake thing. I bought the lightest replacement struts available from Year One. Without that steel rear extension the hatch actually takes a little effort to close. My wife has to use two hands to pull it down.

If there is interest, I'd be glad to post details on the construction. Give me a couple days to get pictures and diagrams together. I did this three years ago and it took some time to reconnect what little I had unhooked.

We don't talk about when this car will be done at my house.

Re: Evoluzione power rear wing

Pics of the mess inside.
(2) Autoloc LA6X 6" actuators 75lb rating, self locking w/internal stops
(2) 1/4" heim joints from Summit +length of rod with bolts welded to the ends
Micro switch for the wing to trip when open that fires hatch release
Factory cinching hatch latch provides power release and a trigger for when the hatch is closing.
Whole bank of 40amp actuators to keep control circuit low amp. Its ugly, but the wing can never try to run in two directions at once.
What made it work automatically is a Finder timer relay. It is set to run wing close for 10 seconds after hatch latch cinching motor finishes. Found a spot in the hatch latch that went to ground the motor shut down. The open circuit is connected to the parking brake switch like the factory release for safety.

Whenever I get badassiroc.com renewed (turned into a freakin **** site when the regitstration expired because the word *** was inthe title), you have got to post up a "DONE" thread and gimmie all your pics. I think i've seen bits and pieces of your ride.

The linear actuators (LA6X) and relays I bought directly from Autoloc. You can get them cheaper from other suppliers these days. The relays can be had from any chain auto parts store.
The timer relay I bought through Appleton Electronic Distributers. Finder 81.01.0.230

Thanks for the support!
