Drivers side t top weatherstrip

I have an 87 IROC. I also have a little leak on the drivers side t top. I noticed the weatherstrip that sits on top of the door glass does not run in full length to touch the rear portion of the car. This is where my leak is coming from. Here is a pic..

As for the front of the car.. it seems to be ok but could be better. I suppose this strip has shrunk? Rubber still seems to be soft. What is this strip called and where can I find it? I don't want to buy the whole kit.

Re: Drivers side t top weatherstrip

The t-top can be adjusted down the mounts on the car where the pins from the t-top go in are adjustable. This will help tighten up the seal a little better.

The rear it looks like the door seal has pulled down some you may want to reglue it.

Potroleum jelly will make the rubber expand also, not a forever fix as it will degrade the rubber also.

I've had luck using weather striping repair glue to add bulk to the seals in a few spots. I don't have leaks except if you hit it with a pressure washer at the car wash.

Also you can adjust how high the window will go up and that will push the seals together better.

I don't know where you can get the one seal, but I would replace all the seals on the one side at the minimum.

Well again I don't want to buy the whole kit because the weatherstrip on the whole car is brand new. Previous owner restored it. I will see if the rear portion on the door needs to be reglued. I recall seeing that it looked to be in place, maybe its just warped a little.

Re: Drivers side t top weatherstrip

if they are new (and they look new in the pics) I would try what Aviator857 said. It has been a while since I replaced a set on my first Z but as I remember it the door piece sat much tighter than that.

The passenger side sits pretty good. I'm hoping to get the drivers side fixed before I move to South Florida next month. Especially with hurricane weather etc.. However it will be sitting indoors protected, just don't want to get caught in a sudden downpour.

We carry both weatherstrip kits and also the seals individually. We do carry those outer T-Top weatherstrip pieces if you need them.

Here's a link to our Camaro Weatherstrip Section

The problem you have is not knowing which weatherstripping piece was replaced, the body or the top. if you do know, then you need to fix the other piece.

The way I see it, the body weatherstripping was replaced with an aftermarket set that doesn't fit correctly. Now you need to find the ttop weatherstripping from the same company or buy a new body set. I bought GM and mine seal tight like they did when the car was new. Aftermarket parts aren't always the best fit!!

The Metro ones are good (that's why we use them) we also do carry the origional GM ones. Agreed with Scott, if possible you should stick with the same brand seals and not mix and match. That will provide you the best protection.

Re: Drivers side t top weatherstrip

Well that sucks. I don't know which part was replaced with aftermarket or stock. The passenger side doesn't leak at all and is sealed tight. If I don't know what it was replaced with then it would be better to buy GM for the drivers side then even if the other is aftermarket on the passenger?

Both our Metro an GM weatherstip seals well. Some of the guys have been buying the GM ones while their still available.

The Metro ones are good too, just a matter of what your budget allows and preference.
