Re: Weather Stripping

Thats a heck of a deal even if they are re-pops !
(I just installed a set of re-pops on my 84, They look good and fit well)
As long as their new.

Heck if they were OEM you could resell them and make a few bucks.

Re: Weather Stripping

Is this the set from the guy on eBay that found them in the GTA that he bought? If so, they are not OEM. They are OER and there are a few on these boards that have installed and regretted installing OER weatherstripping.

Re: Weather Stripping

If it is GM make sure it is in the original packaging with the original part number. I am not sure if they have the part number stamped on them anywhere. OER comes in a black and yellow box and says OER on the packaging. Avoid it as it is crap.

Re: Weather Stripping

Some have trouble with the OERs and some don't,I had no problem whatsoever,I took my time, test fitted a couple times(especially on the T Tops)before I glued them down.Tipnce you get them installed,if you can, leave the tops and doors closed up for a couple days, this will make it easier for the rubbers to take form.Have patience, don't rush it!!!

Re: Weather Stripping

OER is def nothing like OEM. But IMHO its really not worth $250+ per weather strip piece just for OEM. There is no justifying the cost of OE weatherstrip.

OEM def installs better, but OER just takes a little more effort to get what you want out of them. Also OER tends to be slightly thicker and softer.

Re: Weather Stripping

Where are you guys buying your weatherstripping from?
I picked up a brand new metro kit from fleabay for my T-Top that included EVERY piece of weatherstripping for the whole car (Except the cowl strip) for $250.

Re: Weather Stripping

I got mine from sofseal. 57$ for both doors. Its not bad just doesn't come with the OE backing.

Ive seen OEM weatherstrip go for up to 350$ a piece. Yea crazy if you ask me.

There sure is justification for using OEM! You said it yourself. It installs better, is a perfect fit the day it's installed and it will probably last 20 years like the first set did. You guys that think you are saving money might have to buy weatherstripping again in 5-10 years. Buying two sets of aftermarket vs one set of factory? I'll go factory and not worry about fitment issues, door closing issues or window sealing issues!

Re: Weather Stripping

I can buy 4 sets of after market strips that hawks sells for the price of their oem ones. There is justification....but no justification in the cost.

Still gonna get the same for a car regardless if you go to sell it. Its on you if you decided to spend over 1k on weatherstripping. That's just **** if you ask me.
