Hood Insulation
Anyone know where i can get the form fitted hood insulation for my 82 CFI Z28. i got that ugly crap from classic industries but i want a sleeker look. please help. thanks
Re: Hood Insulation
Not sure what you mean by sleeker. What's wrong with the Classic Industries part in comparison to what you are looking for. There are plenty of places to get the 82-84 hood insulation if you do a google search. That's why I'm asking what you're really looking for.

Re: Hood Insulation
How close to factory is the hood insulation from Classic Industries? I was it for my 89 but don't want to order from multiple places trying to find the "right" look.

Do another google search. I've seen them available with the foil backing while looking for a new hood pad for mine. Just not sure where I've seen them.

Why the big want for hood insulation? I've ran a fiberglass hood sans insulation without any problems for six years.

If it came with it from the factory - I want it and I want it to look as close as factory as possible. That's my reasoning anyway, not sure about anyone else.

Re: Hood Insulation
I've just heard off excessive engine heat reducing the life span of the paint on the hood directly over the engine. Never knew how true that was either, as I have had 0 problems.

Re: Hood Insulation
I searched for months for the proper GM molded one with aluminum backing. Couldn't find anything but cheap repros. I got mine from the "4 miles IROC" guy, who got a Crossfire one, from GM by mistake.
I believe, the one I have is the last one available in the country.

Re: Hood Insulation
Bringing another thread back from the dead -- I'd like to find new insulation for my CFI car too and I'd like the foil backing. It looks like the repros from Rick's (Ecklers) and Classic are the right shape, but don't have the foil.
Anyone know if there is a foil material that could be added to the repro part? Maybe a foil designed as a sound deadener/heat insulation for interior carpet?

No dice on that Scott. I saw you other post about doing that and all Google gives me is references to posts here on TGO, some eBay auctions, links to the Rick's and Classic parts and then it gets into a bunch of non-Camaro related stuff.

Re: Hood Insulation
I have yet to install my OEM replacement insulation. But what I did with the cheap repro that's on there now, is carefully peel off the factory foil backing from the trashed original one and sandwich it on the back of the repro before installing onto the hood. Unless you are familiar with what you are looking at, you can't tell, for the rest of us, it's about an 80% solution.
