Installed cup holders today :)

Got some tan cup holders out of a 90 GTA... paited them gloss black, inside and out, put two bowtie stickers on each one, and screwed them into my door panels. They look very good and I LOVE the fact I can put my drink in it instead of holding between my feet. LOL

I'll take pics in a few hours

Cup Holders. Cool!! I gotta get me some of them. Driving with a cold one (milk shake) between my legs gets uncomfortable Anyone got a part number? Am I correct they are a firebird part?

They're stock for 90-92 Firebirds. The factory mounting uses three bolts that screw into plastic nuts that clip into the door. I'm not sure if all the doors have the holes for the clips, but theoretically you'd need to get the clips, the bolts, the cupholders and the trim caps that cover the top bolts. Otherwise you could do the brute force method and just use self taping screws and a drilldriver to run the screw thru the door panel and into the door. Personally I'd do it the way the factory did.

Also keep in mind if you have manual windows, the cranks would interfere with the cupholders.

Okay here's some ****ty pics like I promised...

I used the bolts that came off the GTA. They're torx "self tapping" bolts. So what I did is just screw them. The installation is super simple. All you have to is make sure they're pretty straight (which mine arent.. lol) and screw em in. I painted them black and put a bowtie sticker on them. Before you say it's *****... I think it matches the rest of the color scheme of the car. I've got quite a few compliments on them from fellow thirdgenners.

The square holes for the cup holder/map pocket were already in my 90 RS. The "HELP" section of your auto parts store will have the plastic inserts you need. I got ones that were labeled for installing license plates. I took measurements of teh hole locations from the inside of my door and transferred them to my door trim. For my first attempt I drilled the holes. But the carpeting covering the trim panels gets snagged on the drill bit. I found it easier to just poke a small hole with an awl from the inside to indicate the location, then I used a larger center punch to poke it through from the outside. Good luck, Lon.

If your dealer charges you $40 each then they're making a 100% profit.
Dealership cost is under $20, the two I picked up were less than $30 each.
GM no longer has the drivers side cup holder in the right shade of gray. I ordered two of them and both were a lighter shade. However the trim caps and passengers side cupholder are the right shade so they clash. Painting them would be the only option.

Stock are T-25 or so 1/4-20's of various lengths. Just get em when you get the cupholders from GM.

Blade - those look really sharp! I've been contemplating those for awhile, and after seeing yours, I think I'll go ahead and do it!

Blade, you don't enjoy the cold wet drink in your croch feel? lol
Dude, I noticed you have the EXACT same shifter. I went to a junkyard for the first time and I pulled 3 of them off some pontiac sunfires or something. Best dar interior mod so far . One question though, how did you get it to stay on? The pin in back doesn't line up, it's off like 15 degrees.

The holes on the door are already there, except for one.At least thats what i found on my 84 camaro.Just had to drill for the 3rd hole. Then file corners to make it sqaure so the plastic nut/retainers snap in.These were gray as were the door panels when i bought them.
