IROC extractor hood
I wanted something extraordinary and unique for my build, so I came up with this.
Bead rolled and shirking the pans
Added extensions to the sides
Fitting and preparing for welding
After about 12 hours of tig welding
It is now ready for primer and block sanding

Things that make you go hmmm.
I like the idea.
Do you have a cold air intake package as well?

Re: IROC extractor hood
I dig it. Any plans for ducting behind the radiator?

Re: IROC extractor hood
How in the world do you have room for that? My engine gets closer to hood the further forward in engine bay. It even bumps the hood insulation just behind the radiator.

Not at this time, if it were a dedicated track car I would think about it. The ducts align with the dual fans though.

Your engine bay looks so clean and tidy, man! Your fabrication work is always sooooo nice, too!

Thanks, I like to push my limits. This one went way beyond those. I learned a lot with this project. You would think that at my age, I would sit back and retire, but I’m just not ready for that yet.

The one in this picture is the original from the '84. I have since installed a Griffen radiator and had to make a custom aluminum piece that looks very similar to the stock one.

A successful test fit, it’s as if it was made for the car.
I’m very happy with how well it fits

Re: IROC extractor hood
So those extractors are falling inside the "triangle" of the strut tower brace with the hood closed?

Re: IROC extractor hood
No, they are forward of the brace. There is a 3 1/2" gap between the forward edge of the intake tube and the aft edge of the radiator shroud and this is where the duct openings are. They also happen to align with the cooling fans. on the radiator. I should take a picture of this with the hood closed to illustrate it.

Re: IROC extractor hood
That makes more sense. It was just hard to visualize. With the radiator hose/pipe running through, I was having a hard time imagining it clearing.

Re: IROC extractor hood
Well thought out.
Well executed.
I'd be keen to see something with the hood up. It's been a while.
What's the cold air intake comprised of again? Reminds me of some Corvette details I saw years back with the CAI over the rad (not unlike the TPI setup) and the hood designed to allow the radiator to vent through the cut outs in the hood. Much like your design. (I apologize if I covering old ground).
EDIT: I see your CAI looks to be off to one side. Is that correct?
