C5 brakes with dropped spindles
I've read the spindle group purchase thread several times and this was mentioned in there, but I couldn't find a definite answer, so I am starting another thread here.
I recently got a set of drop spindles. Pictures here: http://dxm004.homeip.net/gallery/vie...mName=04-04-05
Now the question is: will these work as is with C5 brake conversion brackets? Or do I need new brackets? It appears that brake shield mounting holes are in exactly same position in relation to the spindle, so I am hoping the answer would be I can go ahead and put brakes on them. But I wanted to see what brake/suspension experts would say about this one.
I also wasn't sure what the best way was to measure exact dimensions

I'm not exactly an expert, but here are my thoughts:
I see no reason for it NOT to work. The drop spindles are specifically designed to reuse all the factory brake hardware, which means the backing plates and caliper mounts should mount up exactly like the stockers do. All the holes should be in the same places, and the conversion should work just the same as it would on a stock spindle. I'd like to try it and see.

my concern is that we are using brake shield bolt holes. Those holes are not exactly critical part of the component in the original design. I agree that brake mounts must have moved along with the spindle when they designed the thing, but who knows what they would have done with brake shield because most people wouldn't care about the shield that much.
Look at C5 conversion, we completely threw away the brake shield as unnecessary item (as far as I can tell)

I am off topic, but what did you pay for your drop spindles? I have been looking for a set for almost 2 years now!

I did a C5 setup for a guy with dropped spindles on his S10 truck, sight unseen, and they bolted right on. They should fit just fine.
