Need help picking out rear disk brake kit for 9 inch.

I need some help. I'm building a prostreet camaro, and I would like to keep an e-brake. I would really like to buy the Wilwood kit with the internal drum e-brake, but to install it your axles need an access hole in the axle flange. My Moser axles don't have a hole. That kit is a little pricey anyway.

Do I need a kit with drilled and slotted rotors?

This kit from Jeg's looks nice. http://www.jegs.com/p/Right+Stuff/1164460/10002/-1 Will this kit work with new style big bearing housing ends?

I have at least one rear kit for new Ford style with PBR style calipers and correct backing plates. I'll let you know what I have in the shop, it'll fit that application.

Sounds interesting. Sorry for my ignorance, what is PBR style caliper? What rotors will I need? Will it all fit inside a 15" rim?

My Moser axles came with a hole. Even so, it wasn't large enough for any socket and I ended up turning down a spark plug socket to get them on. Moser also sent me the Wilwoods and they installed easily enough. I haven't used them yet though. Still a work in progress.

I would imagine that you could drill the axle flanges, or have a machine shop do it for you for a nominal fee.

That would be an option. I wonder if the axle flange is hardened.

I do have the Ford backing plates in the shop.. and they're the new style so they will work foryou. We can build you a rear 1LE style kit with 11.6" rotors to fit your 16" wheels. How soon do you need the brakes installed? LMK.

I'm not in a huge hurry to buy. I'll need a brake kit soon though. Maybe in a week or two.

I hope you meant to say 15" wheels.

What is the difference between 1LE and PBR calipers?

Re: Need help picking out rear disk brake kit for 9 inch.

I have a moser 9 in. with LS1 style rear brakes. I bought the brakes from Ed (thanks ed, they work awesome!) and the backing plates from the shop I bought the rear from. They fit my 16" Iroc wheels. I forget which part numbers I used for parking brake cables, but I can dig it up if you need it. I only needed to open up the end that goes on the bracket near the wheel and add a few spacers up by the tensioner. Works for me.

Oops, sorry about the typo. I did mean 15" wheels but the plates I have are for a 12" rotor but I can have the brackets done for the slightly smaller 11.6" rotors in about a week, I'll have both on hand.

PBR makes the 1LE calipers as well as most GM aluminum calipers: LS1, Corvette, trucks, etc, therefore PBR calipers will be stock 1LE/LT1 calipers from '89-97.

Yes, pattern is done but I haven't had them cut yet. I can send it off tomorrow and I'll have them in about a week or so. How's that?

I understand, I just got off vacation and the parts should be ready to pick up tomorrow from the plater. Good luck with your brakes!

Re: Need help picking out rear disk brake kit for 9 inch.

Picked them up today, we're good to go on Moser and Strange with big Ford ends, small Ford (8.8") to come soon as well. One thing to note, you need to know your offset/overhang from axle flange to axle housing flange. GM is usually 2.75-2.8" and Ford can be 2.36" so keep that in mind, it will change the rotor selection.
