going to ordering a QP 9" soon. need opinions on what brake system would work better for me. car is more strip than street but i do drive it sometimes on the weekends to local shows.

choices are:

Ford 9" drum brake kit, with 11" drums. https://www.quickperformance.com/For...it_p_4031.html

or

bolt on disk brake kit. 11" rotors with gm metric calipers. https://www.quickperformance.com/For...it_p_7973.html

which one would perform better and be the easier install.

Discs obviously will perform better.

As far as bolt-on, that will depend on what fittings the calipers come with, what flexible lines are available to fit them, and that sort of thing. As well as, what proportioning valve would be required.

I'd think discs would be easier to install... only takes about 2 minutes to bolt up a caliper, whereas it probably takes as much as 5 minutes to assemble shoes and all their hardware.

I’d put whichever your car’s brake system is already set up for, that way you’re not hunting down a proportioning valve. As far as performance, I think the drums will slow you down well enough at the strip and be acceptable on the street. Drums should already have the parking brake built in, whereas the QP discs have it at an added cost. I’d like to see what you end up doing, I’m planning on going to a 9” rear end eventually.

I have a QP 9" as well
I went with the metric disc brakes
I like them, easy to install and repair.
In saying that, they are heavy
I'm contemplating selling the rotors and calipers for a lightweight set

I had QP build mine for the 98-02 style discs. Its a good route to go because you have a lot of upgrade options and can just order whichever ones you want separately but the backing plates are not easy to find. Had to ebay them, they are discontinued .

Old thread, but hopefully you see this... Where did you find the rear brake parts for the rear? The Rotor and pads are easy, but I can't seem to find the parking break stuff at all.

You need to track down the backing plates (pretty expensive even used but I found them on eBay). I found my parking brake cables online from a guy, I think his website is called flynbye.

Thanks for replying! Found a set of backing plates, calipers, and cables on Ebay. Think I'll go that route.
