Hi,

I'm putting this car up for sale simply because I want to get another car after driving third-generation Camaros for 9 years (Prior to owning this car, I owned a V6 1991 Camaro). If it's all up to me, I would LOVE to keep this Camaro and get another car, but it will be unwise for me to own 3 cars at this time (I also have a 1990 Lexus for winter car).

GENERAL INFO:

The car itself has 195K miles but the engine and tranny was replaced with original OEM GM Goodwrench motor and transmission by a Chevrolet dealership in 2000. The new engine and trans has 90K miles now (complete history record available).

I bought the car in Arizona from its first owner in 2002. The car was completely original wih new paint done by the same Chevy dealership. Today, the car still looks as beautiful as ever and it's free of rust.

This is the most trouble free car I've ever owned! Other than regular maintenance and wear items (new alternator, water pump, etc), the car has made roundtrips from Michigan to the east coast several times without problems.

This car is NOT abused / molested in any way.

After 10 years in Arizona heat, unfortunately the interior on this car started to deteroriate (cracked dashpad, deflated seat cushions, crumbled headliner). So I decided to redo the interior.

Both front seats were starting to deflate and there were some torn spots on the driver's seat. Earlier this year, I found a pair of tan-color front seats from 2005 Cavalier with only 8000 miles. The seats are immaculate and a direct bolt on to the Camaro's frame. They are very comfortable and even the seat belts loop guides are right on the spot. The seat cloth pattern blends really well with the rest of the interior (although the pics don't show this really well).

Headliner was also replaced. For this one, I bought a brand new ABS headliner from Hawks Third Gen parts. A bit expensive but well worth it. I also replaced the original dome light. Sunvisors and rear view mirror were replaced too.

REAR DIFFERENTIAL

The only major upgrade I did to the car was replacing the rear differential. The original one was a 2.73 open diff (non-posi) with drum brakes. The gears were starting to roar (I tried replacing all bearings but it didn't help) and the drum brakes did a poor job in stopping the car. So why not an upgrade while I'm at it?

Luckily I found a complete 9-bolt Borg Warner (BW) unit from a Pontiac Trans Am. I took everything apart, cleaned it, painted it, and rebuit everything. The gears and posi unit were replaced, bearings and seals are all new. Everything was done on the bench and a complete unit was swapped after rebuilt was done. First shot, the axle was bent (they are replaced now). This is now 3.70 gears with posi. Speedometer gears were replaced as well so it shows the correct speed.

As I was told, the 9-bolt BW unit normally 'chatters' around corners and so is mine. Adding posi additive may help, but still yet to try since I'll need to open up the cover and drain some fluids before I can add the additive. However, many said that GM does not recommend adding posi additive for this particular unit and the chatter is normal. The posi works great.

The rear brakes were upgraded from drums to disc brakes. Calipers, rotors, and brake hoses are new.

MAJOR difference in brake feel and stopping distance of the car! The new brakes has more of a 'right-now' response than the old drum units (even with new shoes and springs).

The only thing I haven't get around to do is the parking brake cable. The cable I got from the donor Trans Am was was not in useable condition. All you need to do is get a new cable for it.

COOLING SYSTEM

When I bought the car, the radiator was recently replaced. However, as many of you know, GM designed our cars to run 'warm'. I decided to upgrade the cooling system by:
(1) Replacing the radiator cooling fan with dual-fan unit from a Z-28. Runs on dual relay to prolong the life of the relay.
(2) Replacing water pump with EMP Stewart Stage 1 high flow pump. The old pump was starting to go and this high flow pump is only $15 more from Summit Racing. So why not....
(3) Use 180 deg Thermostat
(4) Use 160 deg fan switch.

Simple upgrades, but the car runs much cooler than stock. In stop and go traffic with A/C on the temperature gage stays under 1/2 way.

What needs fixing on the car:

On this page I'll describe what needs fixing on this car. However, these are more of 'annoyances' instead of problems. Keep in mind that this is a 14-years old car and although well-maintained and not abused, some normal wears are expected.

(1) Front brake rotors need resurfacing / replacing. They start to shudder a bit under hard braking. The pads were recently replaced but not the rotors.

(2) There is 1" crack at the bottom left edge of the front ground effect. The front ground effect seats very low (lowest point is 4" from the ground)) so it's very hard to keep this part from scraping ramps / entrances.

(3) There is a small area to the right of the hatchback where the clearcoat started to peel. Also, there are some stone chips on the front fascia.

(4) T-Tops seals may need to be replaced. When pressure-washed, there is slight leak from the upper front corner of the side windows.

And as I mentioned before:

(5) Parking brake cable needs to be installed

(6) May need to add posi additive to the rear differential if the 'chatter' bothers you.

The fine prints:

I'm describing the condition of this car and its flaws / defects to the best of my knowledge. Please keep in mind that although this car is pampered, it's a 14 years-old car. So expect normal wear for a car this age (stone chips, small dings, etc). I make no expressed or implied warranties.

Hi,

I don't remember exactly how many miles are on the tires. The rear tires are about 1 year old and they are like new. The front are about 2 years old and they have about 50% thread left.

As for the rear diff, I installed that myself. See the complete description on my post.

Thanks for looking!

no joke i own that car... i just was searching these boards. i picked that up from him in michigan. they are cavalier seats. he gave me an extra rear posi with it. i have that car sitting in my driveway. unfortunately. the rust started forming shortly after i bought it. i love the car it got in a wreck just a bit ago. i still have it though except for its completely redone from the ground up drivetrain wise and all. it has a 4in cowl on it and 550 hp and tq. its a t-56 trans in it with all new everything from rearend forwards. shes a beuty and im still not selling her im gonna rebuild her shortly.
