RF is better then Kenwood. But that 1800 watts for $230 is peak, not RMS. Keep that in mind. I think RF rates peak as 3x RMS. What's the model #?

are those two companies your only options?? cause i think you could get a much better deal buying online and you have much more selection.
also i wouldnt count on a capacitor helping out too much

Rockford Fosgate is one of the premier car audio companies and have held that rank for years. I've heard a lot of flak, on these boards particularly, concerning the "dubious" quality of Rockford. Frankly, I have heard few plausible reasons that give any sort of credence as to why Rockford is so maligned in most car audio circles.
While I'm a major fan of others, such as Kenwood and Infinity, I've consistently been impressed - even blown away - with the substance and clarity of sound Rockford brings to the table. I will concede, however, that if you're a member of the absolute bass junkies (i.e. hip-hop, rap) there perhaps are better routes than Rockford. After all, I cannot claim to have experienced the performance of every single amp on the market today!
Friend, I would definitely recommend the Rockford amp. I just bought the
Rockford Fosgate Punch 301X, and along with my Rockford subs, my music has never sounded better.
Viva Rockford Fosgate! :hail:

kj. the amps that look like that rock, but the newer ones are having durability problems, and are falling prey to the MAX POWER b.s. ratings that have plaged the industry.

If I were to get another amp, it would either be a JBL, or XTant.
Those are really good amps.
I'm sure the Kenwood is nice, I havn't heard many complaints about them, hope everthing goes well.

ummm....remove what?
i took off the passenger side kick panel, the door runner, and that was it.
And getting thru the firewall is a peice of cake if you pick the right spot. My problem has always been to get the *$*^^ grommet to stay in place.
*edit- btw, my amp choice would be earthquake, USAquistics or an older RF......i've heard nothing good about their new line (best buy special i like to call em)

Thats good, thats your choice
The door runner is to what i was referring to... all the screws are rusted to hell... that is my biggest qualm... it will take me at least an hour to get them out or drill them out...

That said, some people still love them death, and others would never buy RF ever again.....kinda like flowmaster

I don't think their subs are all that good either. Every new "update" has used cheaper materials than the previous. Their new subs look like Jensen rejects, although I haven't heard them so I can't comment on their capabilities. They just don't appear to have a hell of a lot of quality. Fortunately, most of the real car audio shops don't carry the lower end subwoofer lines that Best Buy does.

Best buy carries the punch line, not the power line... You should see people complain about how much the punch line costs... And you want best buy to carry higher more costly subs. tee hee
No offense intended... Just wanted to complain about the general public.

I kinda like some of the new line of Rockford as seen on their website.
Some of the amps look nice, as do the subs.
I think they may have realised they were becoming just like sony and are taking steps to solve that.
Mind you have not looked at nor heard anything from the new line of product, but at least the subs look more like Infinity subs than Jensons
Anyone had experience with the new line of equipment yet?
Sorry for the tangent encouragement.

I've only used RF and don't have any complaint's to date. I just replaced my whole system last year and still sounds like i just but in there yesterday. I always use RF for the speakers and amps and Pioneer for the HU.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of the close alliance with Best Buy and Rockford, but then I rarely enter the store anyway. I've always bought my audio equipment from a locally-owned dealer.
I think my reason for being so keen on Rockford is that I'm not interested in having a competition system. I just want a clear, deep sound that fills the whole of the car even with the tops out - and Rockford Fosgate fills that ticket perfectly.

I think I remember hearing or reading somewhere, Rockford bought Phoenix Gold.
Or they merged under rockford's name.. or something.
But yeah, PG amps are good.. nice and clear.
Expensive though.

That being said for the price of a 500 watt rms rockford you can get a memphis 1000d (800w at 2 ohm, 900w at 1ohm) for the same price.

This post prompted me to look at the new space-ship looking RF subs at best buy a couple weeks ago.
Garbage. Cheap plastic cones, cheap surrounds, and an overall build quality about as good as I'm used to seeing from chinese woofers.
Rockford has officially fallen into the toliet.

Maybe it is garbage, and if so, it's the best garbage I've ever spent money on.

rf vs kenwood
I know for a fact that rockfords quality in amps has dimenished I have two of the old school 400 x 4's pushing my highs wich include (2) horns, (2) 51/2 coaxials kicker and (2) 4 inch coaxials (2) 6 x9 3 ways and (2) satelite highs I used one 200 x 2 for my kicker 12's comp cvr's which is bridged.also with (2) 1000 watt capacitors and two batteries which is a must if you have real power or your system will surge or cut out when it hits hard.I tried 15's in the recomended box by kicker and the system hit so hard I was afraid to do ear damage to my self, the only time I could turn it up is when i was out side the car and thats no fun so I sold them and went back to 12's.I have an alpine 3 disk in dash receiver and a alpine 14 band e q with surround sound feature.
my point was I have good friend who has 3 of the new style rock f amps similiar to my set up and my system stays on all day with out over heating the amps to where his are constantly over heating and shutting off.. In my own words the old school style from the late 90's are the real work horses the ones that phosgate makes now just have the name. I wolud try doing some research on a higher effeciency amp they all have a class rating and I believe phosgate is a c with a being the best...buy a few car audio magazines before you spend big bucks that what i did..
any body and I mean any body can make a car go BOOOM that isnt rocket science but getting a vehicle to sound loud and super clean is the way to go...
