Want to wire 2 fans to come on with amp power

I plan on using a 30A automotive relay to power 2 fans to come on when amp is powered on. Do I need to install a fuse also?? If so what type of fuse should I use??

Always use a fuse!
12VDC fans don't draw much current, so a 5 amp fuse will do it. Use a tap off your fused dist block, or if you dont have any slots open, any inline fuse can be bought from a parts store. Type of fuse makes no difference.

I figured that I could power the 2 fans off the power cable running to the amp by just running a wire from the cable to the 2 fans wiring them in parallel with a fuse in line. does this sound correct??

You want all your circuits to be wired in parallel to get 12VDC. Just tap into the power wire and put a fuse in series with the fans.

sure if you want them on ALL the time. Id get a relay and wire them in with that so they turn on and off just like your amps, you could then wire the lead that opens and closes the relay to the amps turn on lead so the fans come on WITH the amps and go off with the amps also.

ya thats what i would do...just wire it to the remote wire and fuse it correctly. However most amps wont need a cooling fan if they are setup correctly (mounted in a well ventilated area at less than a 90 degree angle)

The 1st post already states that a relay will be used to turn on when the amps are on. He's still going to need a fuse for the fan power.

Just make sure you get quiet fans! THe one I have in mine is too loud. You can hear it over the music if you have the volume low.

I plan on mounting the amp in the wheel well so I need the fans to keep it cool. I have 2 lightning audio 12V fans which run quiet plus the fact that they will be in the wheel well I won't hear them at all. I do plan on wiring them to the amps power cable and remote turn on lead using a relay. Just wanted some clarification if I should use a fuse in-line or not. And since everyone hear agrees that I should use a fuse, what type of fuse should I use and what rating??

Do you really need fans in the wheel well? I had my amp where the spare tire goes for a year before i moved it into the back of my seat and I never had a problem with heat. It was cooler in there than it was sitting on the gas tank hump.

A fan on and amp is never a bad idea, as long as it's install properly. Heat is enemy number one for electronics.

here is the relay and fuse that I purchased for the 2 fan install. Will these do the job?? Relay is a 30 amp and fuse is a 5 amp with chassis type fuse holder.

The relay looks right, I didn't use a fuse when I did mine so I have no idea about that.
