head unit help and yes i searched
ok guys i have a 1985 trans am with the stock harness cut. i went today and bought a nice bundled deal at best buy for a pioneer and some speakers. Well i wired it just like my old jensen deck was wired and nothing. Now mind you i had no memory on the jensen. There was no extra wire for the memory and when i put the red cable from the car to the red cable from the deck and then to the orange cable in the car my battery drained. So now i have it wired red cable from the car to the red cable from the deck and when i turned my car on it doesnt turn on. my old deck worked that way and this one doesnt. so please help.

maybe a fuse is blown....look for a fuse that says CST or something or other in the fuse box on the passenger side...if its blown ur HU wont turn on.
Also...I have a HU that requires a cable being run from the battery and IT DOESNT drain your battery. The unit wont be drawing any current...you just connect the 12v to the cable u ran from the batt and the acc to the car harness n prestoooo

Re: head unit help and yes i searched
honestly 1986350; it sounds like you have both of those wires crossed... there are 2 cables (red and orange) one of them is connected to 12v AT ALL TIMES and the other is a switched (IGNITION) with the key is on. Connect the red from the head unit to the red from the wiring harness and the orange to orange and put the key in and see if anything happens. If it cuts on and maintains the memory (adjust the time) then everything is good. If it cuts on but does not maintain the memory then the wires are crossed...

What do you mean it will turn on only if the constant is hooked up?

Re: head unit help and yes i searched
you may have a car wiring problem or is it possible that you are doing it wrong although I suspect you are meticulously following every instruction to the T.
Have you tested all the relevant wires with ignition both on and off?
If you have and you still get battery drain...then it's highly likely that you have a vehicle wiring issue.
You may just have to create your own wiring to eliminate the draining issue.
Would not be the first time I had to do new wiring.
I have not gotten into mines yet...but soon I will be.
Good luck with it man.
