Sonic Electronics - The Scoop / Reviews

I am looking for some advice from TGO members who have purchased from this retailer. Please speak from personal experience, not my friend, my buddy, etc.

Sonic Electronix (www.sonicelectronix.com)

I am thinking about spending $1500 with them for some car audio equipment. Amps, Subs, Components, Head Unit. However, I am a bit leery of some of the reviews online. It is a roll of the dice the way I see it.

Gray Market: Yes!
Most of their equipment comes with the serial number removed. This voids the warranty from the manufacturer. Sonic Electronix does however have a warranty, but it appears to be mostly BS (lip service). I think they have decent intentions, but if they end up with junk, they are passing the loss down the line to the customer. That's kinda the way I see it. I worked for a company in Houston like this. It wasn't electronics, but we were thousands less than anyone. My job consisted of keeping the profits up, by minimizing peoples complaints, or offering a half-*** solution versus nothing at all. We had good intentions (and usually a good product), but at the end of the day a loss would get passed to the customer since our margins were so slim.

Back to topic, Sonic Electronix is an not an authorized dealer of most of their electronics. I understand that their are plenty of "unreasonable people" that bitch about things when they are not perfect, but their is a whole lot of heat out there on this company. Here / Here / Here

I can always count on what I read here. First hand experiences anyone???

Re: Sonic Electronics - The Scoop / Reviews

I bought my sub box, my first subs, and an amp from them and the service was great good price and quick shipping. I'm going to be ordering a new headunit from them soon too.

Re: Sonic Electronics - The Scoop / Reviews

I know this sounds like , but I have been actively price shopping Rockford Fosgate equipment. I found a place that is an authorized Rockford Fosgate dealer (Not Gray Market) out of NJ that sells cheaper than Sonic Electronix stuff. I was a little leery because it was so cheap. So I decided to check with Rockford Fosgate's website for authorized dealers. Here is the company I had in question, on Rockford Fosgate's website as an authorized dealer

Before I go off and send my money, I am going to double check with Rockford Fosgate to make sure this is up to date information.

And for you Rockford fans..... I was on their site tonight for a while and noticed some of the new amps were being added right then. They have new A/D class amp that are 100% consistent with wattage and impendence across the board. Here are the new specs.....

T1000-4ad
(RMS Figures)
250 Watts x 4 @ 4-Ohms
250 Watts x 4 @ 2-Ohms
250 Watts x 4 @ 1-Ohm
500 Watts x 2 @ 4-Ohms Bridged
500 Watts x 2 @ 2-Ohms Bridged

T600-4ad
(RMS Figures)
150 Watts x 4 @ 4-Ohms
150 Watts x 4 @ 2-Ohms
150 Watts x 4 @ 1-Ohm
300 Watts x 2 @ 4-Ohms Bridged
300 Watts x 2 @ 2-Ohms Bridged

Anyway, if anyone would like to know what Rockford says about this seller, I will happily update the thread. This seller is selling a T1000-1bdcp for $399 w/ PEQ Bass ****.

This would usually cost about $840 through Crutchfield.

Re: Sonic Electronics - The Scoop / Reviews

I couldn't complain with my order. The only reason I went with them was that they had the flush mount mounting bracket and Crutchfield had the one that stuck out. I bought my cd player, dash, and sail panel speakers from them.

They packed the stuff really well. The shipping was free and turnaround was about 4 days from when I ordered to when both packages arrived, from California to Florida.

Re: Sonic Electronics - The Scoop / Reviews

I have purchased a lot of stuff from them. Everything has had the SN's on them. Good service. No problems. They are authorized retailers for several large name companies like Kenwood, Rockford-Fosgate, and others.

Not trying to get into a pissing match over this, but they are most certainly NOT an authorized retailer for Kenwood or Rockford Fosgate.

I just don't want anyone to read that and make a decision to buy just off that comment. An authorized retailer's items will come with a manufacturer warranty.

No pissing match here. A Kenwood tech rep told me that Sonic is an authorized retailer for theirs and several other brands when I called them about a defective amp. They told me to contact Sonic first, and if they did not replace the amp that Kenwood would replace it under warrenty. Sonic refunded the amount paid for the amp, and I purchased the next larger size, also a Kenwood.

Re: Sonic Electronics - The Scoop / Reviews

I had an experience with Sonic customer service a week ago. I bought a bunch of components to add a subwoofer to the OEM system in my 2008 Crown Victoria. The car has the Audiophile CD6, and has a subwoofer output, however Ford discontinued the subwoofer option in the late model vics. All the stuff that I ordered from Sonic showed up on schedule. My next day off, I got busy wiring stuff up and figuring out where to mount everything. Nothing worked. I checked the amp and sub with an aftermarket head unit, and it worked perfectly. It seems that OEM stereos have filters to remove the lowest bass frequencys and and filters to remove the highest frequencys. I called Sonic tech service. They were very helpful, offering to take all of the equipment back. The equipment was not defective, just not correct for my application. They suggested suitable equipment in my price range, discounted every single item 20 to 40 %, and created an order. That's impressive service. I am so happy with the way that I was treated that I kept the first batch if items to add a subwoofer to my boat. It has an aftermarket head unit, so it will work well with those parts. They may sell some gray market stuff, but they stand behind what they sell.
