Rear Camera Wiring
I am just about to run wiring for a rear view camera in my 91 TA convertible. Anyone ever run wiring for their camaro or firebird? I am interested in knowing the best route to run the wires. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

My 84 Z28 I ran though the light circuit for the brake lights.. I thought it was a neat idea but kinda useless.. The system worked pretty good though.

Re: Rear Camera Wiring
I ran a bunch of cables down the right hand sill, under the carpet. Along the side, then over the wheel arch into the spare tyre area. Kind of mirrors the factory wiring route down the left side for rear lights etc.
The new wiring contains a video line to the aux input of my 7" dash screen, a bunch of audio lines, and power + control line for the rear amp.

I may run mine down the left side due to the fact that mine is now right hand drive being here in Australia. Looking forward to getting a little closer without touching something when I go to car shows. That way I dont have to have someone watching for me to back up. thanks for the replys. How did you exit the back to get to the camera? I dont want to make any unnessary holes in the body.

I'm in Oz too, with my rhd Really has no bearing on the cable routing.
Doesn't matter which side you go down really. I went down the non factory side, because there was more room there without the factory harness in the way.
When you get to the back seat, feed it under the plastics, up over the wheel arch, and around the back behind the boot plastics. No need to drill any holes, the plastic and carpet hides it all. You might have to remove the odd plastic panel if you can't persuade it to bend enough. Which is a bit of a pita iirc.
Edit: Just had one of those wtf moments - been a few year since I did this, so just went to actually check out what I did. Turns out I ran the signal wires down the rhs, and the amp power cable down the lhs. Just worked out better for me that way at the time.
Point is, it's fairly easy to run cables to the back and have them completely hidden, without drilling or cutting anything.

Re: Rear Camera Wiring
There you've got met, I never got that far This is another on my long list of unfinished projects . Installed the wiring several years ago during a general electrical re-vamp, but haven't had time to actually install the camera or audio stuff yet. All the cables are coiled up in the spare wheel area, ready to go.
For the rear cable exit, you're right now that I look at it. That's where a hole and grommet will probably be necessary. Somewhere behind the bumper I'd imagine.

I will let you know what I find out when I run the wires. I installed a double din Pioneer touch screen dvd. It is absolutely great. Cost me $308 landed. Fantastic sound. Only problem is that it plays zone 1 dvds. I now have to find out how to record my dvds onto the usb stick. Thanks for the info. I will keep you in touch. My name is Ron

Re: Rear Camera Wiring
I am still working on my iroc ..I have a camera for it ..I have done lots of wire jobs ...the best way that I have found ....is to run power and remote turn on down the driver side ...its easier to bring the power wire through the fire wall ....then run speaker/rca/av down the passenger side ....it may not happen all the time ...but I have found when you run power and rca cables side by side you get a hummm in your sound system..

Hey Ron, that's just where I'm at too. Tho my 2u head unit is a cheap Chinese one from Jaycar , but I got it as a freebie. Does dvd, cd, mp3 stick, bluetooth, etc, works pretty good. Just never got round to hooking the camera up either. I'm Fred btw.
