Removing aftermarket stereo
Absolutely new to this. The previous owner left the wires to a sub system in the car but tucked them up and under. I cut most of it however I believe there is current draw from those still plugged in because the car has some issues with power draw when the stereo is on.
It has a sleek new stereo in there with an adapter to fit obviously and no screws that I can really see maybe I'm looking in the wrong places? Any help in pulling it out would be great or somewhere to start so I can unplug the wires

Re: Removing aftermarket stereo
I did notice two screws near the bottom of the ac radio cover. It's towards the bottom in a corner between the center console and floor board but didn't want to remove it too much because it's a bitch, if it won't help me remove the stereo

Re: Removing aftermarket stereo
There should be a slot on the left and right side of the unit once the bezel is removed. These are for the stereo removal tools that come with new headunits. Since, I assume you dont have these, you can just fab up some sheet metal. About 6" long by 3/4 - 1". Insert into each slot. This will release the locking tabs. Now you should be able to pull radio out.

How do I remove the bezel? I couldn't find any easy way to remove the face plate. Because as soon as that's off I should be able to unplug those wires

Do you have a pic of the setup or where you are?

Re: Removing aftermarket stereo
I do appreciate all the help and I did try using search but didn't find topics on it
I will take some pictures real quick. By it just snaps out do you mean the plastic adapter plate around the stereo?

Pop the trim off that goes around the heat and radio units. It pops right off, just lift each corner. Once off, remove the 2 screws on each side of the radio that attaches it to the console. Done

Re: Removing aftermarket stereo
I did eventually get it out. I borrowed the tools from a radio at autozone to pop it out

Re: Removing aftermarket stereo
A stereo wire going to nowhere isn't your current draw. Hate to tell ya.

Re: Removing aftermarket stereo
A wire only connected to something at one end will have ZERO current draw, regardless of how powerful the source is.
So, to put it simply a disconnected wire that used to be connected to something but now isn't does not cause a current draw.

Re: Removing aftermarket stereo
One wire was shorting out however. Because After unplugging sub wires the car started charging dead at 14 instead on just barely 13. So one wire was drawing or shorted. My problem is sorted though.

Re: Removing aftermarket stereo
Well I'll be. I guess something was drawing power. Glad to know I don't have to further my electrical degree to a Doctorate. Glad ya got it figured out.
