That's an impressive set-up. It has a killer look and the night are pretty trippy. Got to agree with Graeme though. I assume with the openly visual style you're going for that you already have some sort of alarm system: it just better be a damn good one. Tinting the windows could help, too bad you'd lose some of the neon effect.

I'll tint the windows someday. I do have an alarm, but I use it for the features more than the security (remote start/locks). I live in a place where I can leave the faceplate on, the tops off, and a key in the ignition over night and nothing happens.

This is just my opinion but, you have a very nice car and even though your neighborhood is safe there has to be someones eye you caught will driving your car.

It looks like you invested a lot of time and money into your car so it just seems like your risking a lot by not having an adequate alarm.

Don't get me wrong, I still have a decent alarm with all the typical features, and I still use it all the time. I was just saying the convenience stuff has been more useful on a daily basis.

I don't really worry about it because I figure my insurance will more than cover any losses from theft. But my wife brought up a good point, I may get reimbursed for the money, but I won't have the time (and she won't give it to me again) to replace it all.

Thanks for the comments on the car! and thanks for the 2 pennys

Sorry 'bout the pessimsim, Rez. It's just that I was broken into twice before I got a decent alarm, and I still had a stock sound system at the time. Where I come from, we don't have the luxury of not being constantly paranoid of auto theft. Especially when there is actually something worthwhile to take from it. Cherish your Utopian neighborhood enjoy your sweet-a$$ system, and don't let us cynics bring you down.

Let me be the first and most important believer in getting some GOOD TINT NOW!!!
Let's start with MY background:
White kid, neighbor hood so safe that I can keep my car with everything open AND on the street and nobody would think twice because they're driving around in a new BMW or boxer.
Next let me tell you about my previous system before I went all stealth. I had my single 12 solobaric in a small sub right where you have yours. I then have my amp rack on either side just like yours but my plexi glass was tinted and on an angle similar to the hatch glass. I also had BLUE NEON in the same place. I then went to Ohio State University, parked the car in the parking lot for a couple weeks. Next thing I know my stereo was in my front seat, the amps gone, sub left (too heavy), steering column broken (car was almost stolen), and the car was totalled from the INSIDE damage.
Check out my <a href="http://www.crosswinds.net/~jprevost/cars/breakin.htm">break in pictures</a>.
Please don't think that your car is going to be safe. I was lucky enough to have the Avital starter disable or my car would have been in a thousand pieces and probably somewhere on thirdgenparts.com or thirdgen resource!
I know it sounds crazy but trust me, you really don't want to know how it feels to have your heart sink down into your gut. Oh yeah, and that was my second breakin, first time was just the head unit. I still don't have any door locks, I didn't bother getting them fixed for fear that they'll use the locks again to breakin.

I wouldnt trust my alarm alone. You definitely need tint. And trust me...you think you can leave your car running and stuff like that...but you really dont know. People feel the same where I live in NY...until my friends stang got its tail lights stolen right off of it twice in the drive way. He has an alarm and sensor light...yet they stole it. I live in a nice area with no crime...but if the wrong person passes your car at the right time..they may take advantage of the situation. I know plenty of people who are like pro's at stealing parts and stereo's. They steal them from people with the best alarms that are even parked in locked garages. These people feed off of people who think that every thing is so safe and that they are totally protected with thier alarm. I have even heard of one of my friends stealing a CRX and he ended up driving the car to a parking lot...swapping every interior part and taking the kids hatch and rims. He then drove the car back to the kids house...put it back on blocks and took his rims home as well. You have to be careful...and remember not to trust anybody. That is a nice set up...and it would suck to have it stolen. So invest in some tint...it may not totally prevent somebody from stealing it...but you have a better chance of less people noticing it.

Hmmm...
Pretty frightening stories, you guys. Maybe it's good to be cynical sometimes.

I would also be concerned about that thing in an accident. That thing's going to rip your skull right off your body if you hit something.

Got any better shots of your setup at night. I was thinking of doing the same thing, but with a bowtie cutout instead. Just curious as to how bad *** it looks...

Unfortunately, I have to boroow the digital camera from work in order to take pictures, so it's kind of a PITA. The ones I posted turned out a little blurry. The neons have a cool factor of about 9. When I drive at night with them on, people are always turning their head to look and point. (No, not at me! ) Everyone I've shown them to has been impressed. Especially with the broken mirror underneath, it gives a really neat effect. I used the 2-9" neon kit from Crutchfield for about $60.
