Air cleaner options

I have a Holly 4150 and haven't picked out the air cleaner yet.
I'm thinking that I've already exceeded the height of the hood with the manifold but I'm looking for ideas and opinions on what air cleaners are good or bad. I was told the bigger the better but do I need the offset style? Is the drop down style more restrictive?

depending on your manifold, a "drop base" style filter will work the best. a 3" filter is about the most on a stock hood. it will rest on the top of the aircleaner.

Drop Base?

I just got a RPM Air Gap and a 750 DP. I just sat them on my motor and put the hood down as close as i could see and it looks so so close. Everybody says use a drop base air cleaner but i was told that it would then interfere with my linkage. Anybody have that problem? Also i was looking at that K & N aluminum custom plenum that has the single 4" outlet tube and thought it would be cool to hook it with a pipe or something to the stock TPI intake housing. I haven't even looked at the housing to see what size the diameter is so just an idea. Anyone try it?

stock hood?
air gap, 3" filter and a drop base, you SHOULD BE ok. this setup has worked on my car. i dont even think i used an air cleaner nut, the hood held it good and tight.

i run a air gap, carb spacer with a drop base and a 4" filter now on my ss hood, and it touches.

Yes stock hood. I would get a different one but, I just got new blisters and got the whole front end painted. Then i decide to change over to a carb. So im just going to make it work.

there are several different drop base styles. get the "deepest" one you can find.

good luck mang. sounds like you got some good parts.
