Rochester or not to Rochester? Remanufacturers?

I have an 1984 LG4 computer controlled Rochester that I wrecked. Yep, tried to rebuild it myself. First it would fall flat on its face and wouldn't rev past 3500 RPM at WOT. Then somehow I tried to kill my daughter by rigging it so the throttle would stick open internally on her twice. Not sure how you do that on purpose. The last episode ended with a bang and obvious external changes to the unit. She won't let me convert it to FI.

Tried to buy one from someone here Sept. 29, he never found the time to ship it and refunded paypal yesterday (after filing a claim).

Who has purchased a remanufactured CC Rochester that they plunked down on the engine and have been driving happily ever since? Where did you get it?

I expected to hear something from you. Didn't expect you step up to the challenge in such a practical manner.

Re: Rochester or not to Rochester? Remanufacturers?

Have a look at this link.I bought a rebuilt one from summit(done by holley),and when tuning it I found that the thread where the iab screw is was stripped. After some frustrating attempts to fix it,I found this site and bought another one.
It ran straight out of the box.I just had to adjust the dwell and such,as you have to do anyway. All in all,a excellent buy.

Re: Rochester or not to Rochester? Remanufacturers?

Thanks. Are the stock carbs 750 CFM? Seems bigish.

Stock q-jets are capable of 750 CFM flow, but will only give the engine what it can handle. That's the function of the air valve.

Re: Rochester or not to Rochester? Remanufacturers?

I tried to rebuild mine too and after it was done it was stuck at wot. I ordered a new one from summit, it took about 3weeks to get to my house because holley usually dosnt carry these on their shelf. Dirt got in it the other day so now at part throttle it stutters but other than that its perfect.
