Daily Driving Your Carb'd Car?
I daily drive my carb'd 1983 Z/28 (383 Stroker). I'm just curious as to how many people daily drive their carb'd cars and what it's like on a daily basis

Re: Daily Driving Your Carb'd Car?
Besides cold start up, it drives like any other thirdgen Ived had. That goes for my old L03 92 RS Z03, 86 Firebird with a LT1 and a Formula with a l98...
It will run good and drive good if you have it dailed in somewhat.
Running a holley 4150

Wasn't that long ago that all cars were carb'd, I think even some thirdgens came carb'd. Just let it warm up and stay on top of the tuning. I daily my 64 cutlass, no probs.

Daily drove my 92 with a Holley 4150 on it from May through October-November till I ruined the engine messing with the timing. No problems before that.

Re: Daily Driving Your Carb'd Car?
I've been daily driving this car for about 2 weeks now and I love it. Just replaced the tranny mount and it made a huge difference.
Overall it is a pretty big difference, considering the fact that the only other car I've owned was a 4th gen V6 A4.

I daily drive my 84 z28 with a 355 and edelbrock 750 mechanical secondary. Other than the cold starts, it runs perfect. Took a couple tries to get it tuned perfect, but it gets me from point A to point B and anywhere else just fine.

Both my stock Roch. Q-jet carbed 72 Pontiac and 84 Z-28 run fine for daily driving either hot or cold.
2 pumps before starting cold, letting them idle a moment, kick the idle down and drive away.
Hot starting..............Just turn the key!

Drove my camaro for 4 years with a cammed and carb'd 305, honestly wish i still daily drove it sometimes. It got decent mileage and rolled out pretty good, without all the computer related problems I've been dealing with lately with my truck.

Re: Daily Driving Your Carb'd Car?
I used to drive mine to work everyday, 150 miles a day, 355 with Speed Demon 650 VS 16mpg average, lots of fun, now I have a Hyundai Genesis 2.0T (re- tuned) 26mpg average just as fast and fun but still drive the Camaro at least once a week even dough it cost me an extra $10.00 in gas a day

I DD my car. 90 miles roundtrip. It's got a 750 VS that I'm still tuning on but I'm averaging about 20 mpg and it cranks everytime I get in it without hesitation.

Re: Daily Driving Your Carb'd Car?
i daily drive my 84 camaro/305, it's got an eddie 600 carb & egr intake, hooker headers & flowmasters. Every morning when i get in the cockpit, just lightly tap the gas pedal & it starts up. Every sbc I've had was cold blooded & needed the little tap on gas for start up. I have a 78TA w/sbc 355 that i drive once per week & same thing......

Re: Daily Driving Your Carb'd Car?
You mean there is something else out there besides carbs for fuel delivery???
My first car was a 72 Camaro RS with a 350 2bbl. Swapped out for a Holley 600 and my mileage got a little better but then I had a hard time keeping my foot off the loud pedal. Bought a 67 Camaro with a 250 6cyl a few years later for my daily driver and loved it.
I love my carb'ed cars but for a DD I prefer my EFI vehicles.

Re: Daily Driving Your Carb'd Car?
People daily-drove carbed cars for the better part of a century.
Your grandma probably spent most of her life driving such a thing. Go ask her what it was like.
It's not rare, remarkable, unusual, difficult, extraordinary, or otherwise even worthy of comment. It's just How It Was Done for a LONG, LONG time.
The shape of the sheet metal, the wrinkles stamped in it, or the stickers applied over it, make no difference whatsoever.

DD my 82 Berlinetta with a rebuilt CC roch quad for the past 5 years. Block heater seemed to help a bit with cold starts, especially in the winter haha. Gas millage is terrible, around 10 MPG, but I love it too much to stop driving it.

Re: Daily Driving Your Carb'd Car?
From 1987 through 1995 I use to drive my 67 Camaro back and forth to work 72 miles round trip. It was a Frankenstein car. I bought it for $1200 and it ran and wasn't a total pile of rust. It had 68 rs tail lamps, 68 deluxe interior panels, 68 grill, early 70's G-body rear housing (modified for leaf springs), M-20 Muncie trans and a 250 6-cyl.
