Re: best method for buying

Paypal is what I prefer and it seems to be what about everyone uses on here. Do a google search for paypal and do some research on it. Other methods are money orders, local pickup with cash.

One thing that makes me cautious is sellers that have a low post count (like 0 posts) and joined the forum say last week. Also it seems that people that have been on this site longer and have bought/sold lots of items know how to ship packages better - meaning pack items with plenty of bubblewrap/packaging and use better boxes. Its not always true though.

Re: best method for buying

I'll second the vote for Paypal. They have a dispute policy available in case the item is not shipped or is outside of the described condition (within reason of course).

As for WHO to purchase from, anytime you find someone you'd like to buy from, search their name and see what feedback is given on them. Frequently you will find positive or none. But there are a few on the board who are known to cause problems with buyers. Their names and the issues surrounding them are in the feedback board as well.

Finally, if your interested in extremely large parts (hoods for example) be prepared to search more locally or drive to pick them up. Most people do not want to ship these large items because they can be damaged easily. I once shipped a whole rear hatch, and will never again agree to that (despite the buyer being satisfied).

Finally, make sure you get pictures of the item your buying. No pics, no sale, no excuses. I would never dream of selling an item without a pic, and if you can't acquire one, it's because someone is hiding something.

Re: best method for buying

I used a money order when I bought a spoiler a long time ago. I'd prefer money order or local pickup with cash. Bought my T56 in cash, bought my last mid pipe in cash, bought a front bumper in cash, and used a money order on here once.

I wouldn't buy anything from a private party for over $1,000 unless I meet them in person. Put out a total of around $2,200 for my T56 swap, and I really had no choice but to drive to Virginia and meet him in person, since it was getting swapped in by the seller.

Good luck with your future buy(s) though. There's some very trustworthy people on here, shouldn't have any issues.

I always use a USPS Money Order. If you use Paypal use a real credit card...

Also, please take a glance at this sticky just to be safe: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fire...please-do.html

Good luck.

Re: best method for buying

Anyone know how paypal is when it comes to refunds? I am in the process of making a deal and (I am selling) I am a little weary as the deal is not in the US, its going to Puerto Rico. I am afraid of sending my item then someone disputing it and not sending it back. Anyone have any experience selling with paypal.

My experience with a paypal issue seemed pretty fair. I bought audio equipment that did not work, and the seller insisted it did. Paypal tried to mediate a solution via emails, but we were unable to. I sent the item to paypal, and they sent me my money. Paypal then instructed the seller to pay them back, and they would return the item to him. I believe the seller is given a deadline for completing the transaction with paypal before their account is suspended.

But long story short, as long as you use delivery confirmation, worst case scenerio should be that you have to "refund" the money with paypal interference and the item is returned. Overall the process seemed fair and not biased toward either individual. Although it's been 4 or 5 years since this happened, so I can't tell you if it's the same or not.
