vin is 1G2FW2187KL242718 can someone give me some information on this car through the vin
isn't the 6th digit a 3 on the convertibles. whats the story there

Only the 91-92 birds are factory optioned and have it recorded in the VIN. There's a few here that have info on the 87-90 GTA verts that should be able to help.

1989 GTA Verts are rare, and sought after and semi-valuable. It's done by the same company that did the factory verts for GM only after the fact.

You'd need to ask okfoz, he can likely tell you although I dont think theres much point knowing. It was made sometime before mine, based on the series number. Mine is 247xxx and was made in March 89.

It is a 350 car though.

From my current information the best I can calculate is its Number 91 of 139. I still have not been able to find the VIN for 15 of the cars on the list, some of them were exported, Others I can only speculate on the happenings of those cars... The Ship date is 4/11/1989

I suspect these cars were ordered, shipped to ASC as time permitted, cut up by ASC for whatever time that took, sent to the dealer from there. I have some paperwork at home but IIRC the car was sold sometime around June-July so a May ship date makes sense. The date codes on the parts on the car are all in the March area.

It is interesting to look at the VIN in relationship to the ship date, there is a definate corelation, with one or two exceptions they fall within a pretty stright timeline.

And to answer your question Yes its a good thing to be on "THe list"

Hi, I own a 1989 gta., convertible, which has been semi restored to very nice condition. I am curious if there are any other gta vert. owners on this site? If so please describe your car. Also, what are some opinions on the value of these rare birds? I think the feeling is that they are starting to go up in value and will continue to do so. Any thoughts??

There are other owners here, About 3 or 4, possibly more.

Most of the cars seem to be red, for one reason or another.

Value is a reletive term, and not everyone will value the same thing. Its very dynamic and unspecific. Personally I think the 200 or so L98 GTA, Trans Am & Formula Verts made in 1989 will be a sought after item since they were only made one year, all other 3rd gen firebird verts would have been only 305's... If you want rare then the 2 TTA verts would be by far the most rare, then Trans Am Vert with a 350, followed by the Formula and finally the GTA. If you want style the Trans Am Convertible, in my opinion is more attrtactive than the Formula vert, but the Formula has a personality which is very unique when convertiblized. I am personally partial to Formulas.

Low Miles is a plus,
Good contion is a must
All original will depend on the taste of the purchaser and the seller, If you modify it then make sure its in good taste, If you adorn it with Green and hot pink stripes then you might find it a difficult sell. changes done in good taste go a long way... If you have the SLP package, then that too will be a plus as 1989 was the first year it wouold have been offered as a dealer installation.

Since there is no Official values on these cars by NADA, Edmunds, KBB etc, I think the rule of thumb will be to multiply it by 1.5 to about double that of a hard top car. That is very consistant with other convertible values. This is true especially in this case because of the rarity of the cars, being that there were only about 369 produced, ASC has record of around 329 which the VIN is spelled out...
