92 Z28 Z03, new to me and trying to find out some history.

I recently traded for a 1992 Red Convertible Z28 with Red leather interior. I checked the RPO codes and it seems to be a highly optioned car. The guy I traded with did not have much history on the car, just that the guy before him had put a supercharger on it and about 2 weeks later the car was stolen and only the supercharger was taken. The guy put the TPI back on and sold it to the guy I got it from. The car has BBK throttle body, Moroso valve covers and a MSD ignition in the passenger side floor board with a chrome fire extinguisher. It has a healthy cam in it and what appears to be at least 3" "I'm thinking larger" exhaust from the hooker headers back. I was just curious if this sounded like anyone tHt was on the site before? I just got the car and I'm curious what all has been done to it. If this is not the right spot to ask, I apologize, I am fairly new to this site.

Good luck with this one... The best you might find is an old recipt or an old soemthing or another in the car that leads you back to the original or a previous owner...

I got lucky... My first car I know the previous owners name, I have it memorized, his first name was the same as my RA that year at school, and his last name was a town close to where I grew up... I also have the sales original paperwork from the original owner with his name and addresses on it. I do not think anyone even knew the information was in the car when I got it, I just happened to find it.

Keep in mind there was something like 1.7 Million 3rd Gens made, there is 150,000 members, Considering there are a lot of "members" that were spam-bots, but there are a lot of members that have multiple cars, and some members have multiple log-in names.. It probably works out in the wash that we represent about 10% at best of all o the cars out there...

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond! I figured it was a shot in the dark, but you never know if you don't ask they say. I figured if it was a members car or had been posted about in the past someone may recognize it. Thank you agin for taking the time to look and respond, I appreciate it!

One thing you can do is get the carfax and the Autocheck reports... It will at least tell you a little history as far as where the car had been registered. Sometimes you can go to dealerships and they will do it for free, I know a local dealer was saying to bring them any VIN from another car lot and they would run the CARFAX for you... It did not last long, as I am not sure of the Legality on their behalf of doing so.

I went ahead and paid for a carfax report. This is what I came up with, it does not show any owners name on it. I'm not sure if this information that can be obtained.

Right... They would not have the actual owners name...

But you now know the following
IT appears that you might be either the 3rd or 4th owner, which I think you knew... I am not sure why there are 2 titles in 1992, the third title in 1996 might be when the loan was paid off on the car. I notice that they make note of new owners in 2013 & 2014.

Kinda what I was thinking, thanks for your thoughts and wisdom. Any idea how I can obtain the previous owners name? This car only has 77k miles on it and I have a pretty good feeling that I'm going to hold on to this car for a while. Would like to collect as much info on the car as possible.

You might be able to check with the local Chevy dealer where the car was first tagged. I don't know how big of a area/town it was tagged in, but with my 83, the original selling dealer is still in business and had all kinds of info on my car. They even had a pic of the original owner and my car.

That would be some great info to score! I will try that and see what I come up with, thanks!
