Auto Prom HELP!

Alright, I got the Moates.net Auto prom with all the fixings. I have Tuner Pro RT installed on my laptop. I have been searching forums galore and have found no straight answers to any of my questions. I was working on my truck last night for several hours. I got my autoprom hooked up with the cable and chip insert. My laptop sees it. I still do not know how to download the appropriate bin file and the definition file that goes with it. I have tried but with no luck. I have a 1995 GMC K1500 5.7 automatic transmission. I have emailed Craig Moates several times in the last week and no one has gotten back to me. The information that I have found is so limited and assumes that the person reading it knows more than they actually do. I need to know more than I’m reading. I’m positive that more than just myself needs this type of info. I plan on writing up a step by step guide for the beginner once I finally get all of this information and know how to apply it. Is there anyone out there that can help me out please? I am in need of the following.

 How to determine what .bin file you need?
 How to determine what XDF file works with the .bin file?
 How to download the above files into Tunerpro RT?
 Once installed, what is the first step to determine what fields need to be adjusted?
 Where to go into in order to make the changes?
 How are these changes made?
 Etc.. (walk me through getting to making changes and seeing the changes in action.

I was to the point of where I turned my truck to the on position and tried to connect computer to the ALDL cable. Connection failed. I tried adjusting a couple of fields like the “instructions” suggested, but to no avail. Please, please, please, please someone help.

Thanks.

Extremely frustrated newbie tuner

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

For the appropriate .bin files check Moates file downloads.

same on the bin editor file XDF.

I believe you place those files in "my documents" then TP opens them.

what fields to change? That is up to you. Set the BPC for sure. Modify your VE fueling tables after analysis. Among others. Much info in stickies.

I have never used TP-RT for datalogging. I recall you need the appropriate ADS file. Also at Moates.

What are you trying to accompish with tuning?

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

Well most of this is Greek to me. I got the downloads for the .bin & .xdf files now, I think. I am going to plug in tonight and see if it connects to the truck. I guess I will data log first and then see where changes need to be made and wing it. I doubt I'll get that far but if I get...When I get stuck I'll chime back in.

Thanks,

Rick

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

Well I got everything plugged in but TunerProRT will not see the ALDL. It sees it in Data Master though. I'm dying here. I'm so damned frustrated! I know it's going to take some time, especially without a user manual that, well, is helpful. Please please don't abandon me. If you have links that will help I'll read them, I've looked all over and my questions don't seem to be getting any answers. I'm at the point where it's plugged in to the truck but I get no love on the ALDL side. Once I do, then where do I go??

Oh, help me naked baby Jesus, help me Tom Cruise!

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

I have never used TP-RT for datalogging. I will assume the com ports are all aligned.

There are threads here that deal with your connecting issue. I would search posts by Magnus and you may see the procedure outlined.

check this out:http://tunerpro.markmansur.com/FAQALDL.htm

A similar thread?

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

So am I reading this right from where I got my cable.

MAX232 Circuit

Maxim (and others) make an RS-232 driver chip that provides an assured drive signal voltage and the proper slew rates. This part requires a +5V DC power supply, so the 12V (or self-powered voltage) has to be regulated down to +5V. The 78L05 regulator series is the least expensive and easiest solution for this. (you can find the regulator at almost any parts supplier, Digikey, Mouser, Newark, Radio Shack, etc.) We have not seen an application where the MAX232 will work and the Two-Transistor circuit will not, but if you see one, let us know
.

Does this mean that I need another regulator in order for the program to see my aldl plugged into the truck? Here's the link to where I got my cable.

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

O.k. I think I may have figured out my data logging problem with TP. I just need to jumper these pins on my cable.

http://www.obd2allinone.com/aldl-USBinstructions.pdf

I will try that tonight and see what goes on from there.

I'll be back!

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

O.k. I'll be the first to admit I'm a duffus sometimes. I was trying to hook up the ALDL separate from my Auto Prom. So I have my laptop hooked into my Auto Prom via (1) usb cable to APU1 and a cable from the APU1 to the ALDL on the truck. I have tried everything that I can find with suggestions. I still cannot however connect to the aldl. Any idears?

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

Progress.
I got the aldl working. I recorded a 20 second run and saved it. Now I don't know how to see the parameters of the playback. How do I see the fruits of my labor?

I made sure the apu1, cpu and truck were hooked up correctly again. I checked the settings in the computer, again. I turned truck on, clicked connect ecm and it didn't find it. I clicked it again and then walla, it connected. Confettie fell from the Heavens, Playboy Bunnies danced around me in string bikinis. It was great for a minute.

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

I have never used either for datalogging. BUT there are numerous threads about that issue and I suspect temporary in nature. I searched and found quite a few threads about not connecting. I suspect more detailed info is available. Is there a help function in TP-RT out lining the procedure? Maybe send an email to Mark(Magnus).

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

O.k. it's been a couple days since I P.M. Mark with no answer.
I think I may have found the proper bin file, xdf file & data stream file last night/this morning. I will try them this weekend.
My laptop says that the ALDL is connected and records but I don't see any data coming in. I don't see any of the information when played back either. Where do I look for the information from a saved session? And/Or why can't I see it? From what I have read, is it the data stream that allows tuner pro rt to see the info coming in from the data log?

Thanks,

Rick

Re: Auto Prom HELP!

Damn it! I can't get it any data to flow. I've tried and tried.
I can get the auto prom and the ALDL connections on line. I have been trying a bunch of the 0D mask files in all sorts of combination. I'm frustrated beyond belief. If someone would be so gracious to send me a link for the combination's to use in order to data log my truck I would be so very grateful. I can data log with what I have but I have no information coming out of it. I pull up the Dash view and it doesn't read anything. I'm guessing that is due to the fact the wrong definition file is being used...... I'm about ready to just say screw it and start shooting! Not really but you get the idea. If someone could just throw me a freaking bone here I would be eternally in your debt.

Thanks in advance.....I hope.

Rick

**Can I data log with another program and use it to figure out what areas that I need to adjust? If so what program?
